Description

A. TOMESKA.
. FAUcETs. No; 177,898. Patented. May-23,1876.
N.PE1ERS. PMOTOvLITHnGRAPMER, wAsmNGTuN D C ber or passage-way is 'UNITED' STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ANTON TOMESKA, OF IOWA CITY, IOWA.
` IMPROVEMENT IN FAUCETS.I
Specification forming part of Iletters Patent No. 177,898, dated May 23, 1876; application tiled February 26, 1876. t
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON ToMEsKA, of Iowa City, in the county ofv Johnson, in the'State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Faucet for Drawing Off Liquors, Wines, Beer, Whisky, &c., from Barrels, Oasks, Kegs, and others vessels; and I do declare hereby that the `following is a full and exact description.
Figure lis a side elevation. gitudinal central section.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device for drawing liquors or liquids from their containing-vessel that shall not internally present considerable, if an y, metallic surface with which said liquors or liquids can come in contact while standing in or passing through the same; and t0 this end it consists of a wooden fauoethaving its exterior strengthened by metal bands, While the internal chamentirely or substantially through the Wooden part of the faucet, all as will now 4be more in detail set out and explained.
In the accompanying drawings, A denotes the stock or main barrel of the faucet, which is made of wood. a is the usual passage way for the liquors, &c., and extends centrally1 from the inner end of the stock, and thence near to the butt, and thence down and through the spout A. The spigot B is made of y wood, or of wood and covered, in whole or in part, with metal, and has the usual opening b through it, to allow the ow of the liquors, dac. It may be secured in place by springs b and nut b, and thus cannot be blown out by pressure of gas or otherwise. The butt ofthe faucet is en- Fig. 2 is a 1onl circled by a metal band, C, which can be shrunk on or secured otherwise. The spout is likewise surrounded for the largest part of its length by a'metal band or covering, C', which is suitably fastened on in any ordinary manner, and also by straps c, ened to the body of the stock, or secured in the aperture through which the spigot passes. The spout A may also be surrounded or incased by metal O", which is securely fastened thereto and to the body of the faucet.
It will now be seen that the liquor or liquid which stands in the faucet rwill not come iu contact withany metal if the spigot is made of wood, and with only the smallest metal surface in case the spigot is metal or metalcovered, while in passing through it Will have a wooden-faced duct, unless when a small space of metal may be offered at b by a metal spigot.
By this method of construction I have obtained a device that possesses all the excellence of an entirely Wooden faucet, and all the advantages in. looks and strength'of a Inet-al faucet Without any of its disadvantages, and the liquor or liquid standing in it and passing through will not be damaged in the least to the sight or taste, or'in fact, thereby saving loss and harm.
Having thus described my invention, what :Iconsider new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i The faucet herein described, consisting of wooden body A, Wooden spout A', spigot B b,spring b', and nut bf, and metal coverings or bands O O c C, all combined substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
Signed by me February 19, 1876. ANTON TOMESKA. Witnesses:
