F LDINQ'ME AL GOLFSMQOTHER OR SWIPER Filed April 8, 1929 Inventor A iiorney Patented on7, 19 30 p vnniv SMITH, or WINNER, SOUTH DAKOTA FOLDINGVMETAL eon]:
Application filed April 8,
The present inventionrelates to a folding metal golf smoother or sw per the putting surface willbe smooth to putt An important object of'the invention resides in the provision of nature which'is exceedingly simple in construction, easy to manipulate and handle,
inexpensive to manufacture, compact andconvenient, strong and durable, and thoroughly efficient and reliable in use and operation. y
With'the aboveand other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds,
the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. In the drawing: a Figure 1 is a plan viewof the implement embodying the features of my invention,
Figure 2 is an edge view thereof, Figure 3is aside view of the blade, and Figure 4 is a perspective view showing the blade in folded position.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes an elon gated handlepreferably made "of wood and tapering toward one end. A blade B is attached to the smaller endof the handle 5 by means of a bolt 6, washer 7 and thumb nut 8. This blade B is of oblong construction and has the portion approximately between 5 one longitudinal edge and the median longitudinal dimension straight and the remaining portion transverselycurved. The blade also is provided with a straight lower edge. Obviously the blade when'in use may be 40 disposed as isshown inF'igure 1 that istrans versely to the handle or may be disposed as shownin Figure 4; longitudinal with the han-" dle sothat the implement may be easily carried in a golf bag orthelike; The blade B is a preferably formed of metal and nickel plated to be used for smoothing the surface of a sand green so that V a device of this sMoo'rHEn on SWIPER 1929. Serial No. 353,478.
steel, wrought iron, brass or cast aluminum may be used to advantage.
H This implement has considerable smooth-,- ing surface which is necessary to helppack the sand mcnt is very light and convenient to carry in a golf bag and furthermore it may be easily turned over and used to partly smooth down the rougher places somewhat on the order of a hoe or rake. 1
It is thought that the construction utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent without a more detail description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention 0 has beendisclosed in considerable detail for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, in the materials and. size and shape without departing from the spirit or .scope of the invention as hereinafter claimedor sacrificing any of its advantages. 10
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: r t
1. An implement of the class described comprising an elongated handle, a blade, a
bolt extending through thecentral portion 175 of the blade and one end of thehandle,a nut on the bolt so that the blade may be held transversely through the handle .or longitudinally therewith, said blade being of ob--' long construction and having a portion between one longitudinaledge and the approximate median longitudinal dimensionflat and the remaining portion transversely curved and said blade further lower edge.
comprising an elongated handle,a blade, a 'bolt extending through the central portion of the blade and one end of the handle, a nut onthe bolt so that the blade may be held and make it smooth. The imple 5 l having a straight 12. An implement of the class describedif transversely through the handle or longitudinally therewith, and said blade having a, straight lower edge being of oblong construction and having a portion between one longitudinal edge and the approximate median longitudinal dimension fiat and the remaining portion transversely curved, said bolt extending through the flat portion of the blade.
In testimony whereof I afifix my si nature.
