Description
F. L. KNOWLES SUNSHINE CRIB Sept. 23, 1 930.
Filed March 10, 1928 Hag l i Patented Septr23, 1930 barren STATE rnnn LESLIE KNOWLES, or FORT DODGE, IOWA;
L SUNSHINE CRIB Appl ication filed March 10, 1928; Serial No. 260,71l.
It isthe purpose of myinvention to provide 1 a sunshine crib for small children, which can beconvenientlymounted in thewin dow opening 'ofa house in such manner as toproject "fioutside the house, which crib is provided with suitable transparent parts,]so that a child in the crib may receive a sunbath, while the crib maybe keptwarm by the circulation of air from the interiorflof'thehouse. 10 Another purpose is to provide such a crib having suitableglass substitutes, which do 'not. retard thepassage of certain biologically valuable light rays, the passage of which isimpeded by ordinary glass. y With these andother objects in View, my j invention consists in the construction, ar-
rangement and combination of the various parts of mysunshine crib, whereby the ob je'cts contei'nplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings,in which:', i v
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a crib embodying my invention. I
Figure 2 1s a perspect ve view of one of thesliding channels containing glass substitute.
Figure 3 is a front elevation ofmy improved crib. 7 Figure 4 is a longitudinal, detaihsectional View of thecrib,parts of the wall'of the housegan d the Window sash being shown in 7 section; and e T Figure 5 is a transverse, sectional view of the crib taken on the line 55 of Figure 1. It may be said that generally speaking-my crib includes a front wall, a top and bottom,
' a rear wall and side walls. The front wallproj ects laterally and verti- 40 cally beyond and above the side and top walls, so-as-to overlap awindow frame inside a room.
The crib is reallyqa boX. It has a bottom meral 10, preferably having spaced members 10 and 10 with a dead air space 11 between i them;
wall, indicatedgenerally by the reference nu-v bottom, and the side walls14 also of similar construction. V a i At the front of the crib is a front walllti, which projects laterally beyond the side walls 14, as shown in Figure '1, and vertically above the top of the wall of the crib, whichwill be hereinafter described.
At the top of the crib is a frame member A, having the side members 18 extending rearwardly from the forward wall16, and a rear member 20 connecting the members 18. I
At the rear corners of the frameA are frame members 22, extending downwardly and supported on the sideand' rear wall members 14 and 12. i
The rear wall 12 has' the inner wall 12 at its lower partandithe rear,,outcr wall member 12, which extends upwardly to the top of the crib and supports the rear part 20 of the frame A. The upper part of the rear wall 12", as indicated at 12, is preferably made of glass substitute material, such as is herein after again referred to. f I g I t the sides of the crib above the side walls 14 are suitable screens 24. 4
' Mounted in the frame A and supported thereby and by the upper part of the front wall member 16 is a pane of glass substitute 26 of thekind in whichscreen wire or the like is covered by a cellulose acetate solution, as for instance disclosed in the Colle et al. Pat ent o.. 1,58(),287, issued April 13, 1926.
In the wall 16 at proper points are openings 28 .to receive panels 30, which maybe slid into the crib ust outside the screens24, I Thepanels 30 contain panes 32 of some glass substitute, such as that mentioned. The panels SOslide, between suitable guides 34.
When the panels 30, are in position, no 90 drafts from-the'outside can enter the crib. In some weather, one. or both the panels 30 can be, taken out or only partially inserted;
The front of the crib has a' gate'or door 36 hinged as at 38.
The door 36 and the wall 16 are provided with coacting latch members 40 and 42.
i The door 36 has a latticed portion or the like 44 to allow free circulation of air between the crib and the interior of the room. 109
In Figure 4,1 have shown at 46 itWHll having a Window opening 48, in which is a slidable sash 50 above asill 52.
On the underside of'the crib is a cheat 5 L adapted to rest just outside thesill 52 to keep the crib from tilting; v y
I In the useof the crib, the Window sash 50 israisedand the crib is thrust ontivard-' ly through the indow opening until the front Wall lfifofthe crib rests againstthe Window frame and upon the sill 52as shown in Figure 4. The sash 48 is then lowered 1 until it is against the top of the crib and overlapped by the upperspart otthe roonr 16. Suitable bedding may be placed into theicrib, and a child-put into thecrib and i given a sunbath.

throughordinary glass.- 1-
It W111, of course, be obviousthat some changes may be made in the details of the 7 construction and arrangement of partsof my improved'crib Without departing from the real spirlt and purpose of my invention, and 1t is my intention to cover by my claims anymodifiedformsiof structure or use of mechanical equivalents, Whichmay .be rea-; Tsonably included in or covered my claims.
7 I claim as my invention:
7 A crib of thegkind aescnbea miag bottom, side vva lls,arear Wall, a transparent top Wall, and a front Wall projecting laterand upwardly screens at the upperparts of the sidewalls, said'front Wall having openings in its upper part, panels having transparent elements, said, panels b6111 ada ted to be lnserted throu h said openings, said crib having guides for receiving said panels, whereby the crib may be mounted in a 'WiIlClOW' opening and} the panels may be controlled from nside a house.

In acrib of, the kind describe d, bottom, side, rear and top Walls, a frontwall' having a closure member provided 7 with q betWeenthe ,crib'and the interior of. a room, said front Wall having openlngs and said i adapted to be side alls having guides,andsli'dable panels D 'M fi y e F mry .1 19 3 I 'rREnLKNo Lnsimeans for permitting thefree passageof air I inserted through said 'op'enings and nto said'g 'ndes', sald crib having 7
