Each of the elements 3o rests upon one of the side members i3.
element 3@ includes a bottom. wall 32 seated on a side member ld, an inner wall. 33 extending upwardly from the bottom wall, an upwardly and outwardly inclined forward wall 34, a pair of side walls 35 extending 'trom the bottom wall to a point adjacentan upper and side member 2, and a connecting strip 36 extending between the side walls 35 at the upper ends of the latter thereby providing a frame with a trough like lower portion. Connected with the strip 36 and extending downwardly therefrom to a point in spaced relation to the inner wall 33 is a mesh wall portion 3'? which merges into a downwardly and outwardly inclined portion 38 formed with an angle 39 and having its lower edge seated on the bottom wall 32 in spaced relation to the inner wall 33 and outer wall 3@ whereby the trough portion of the element is divided into inner and outer compartments. The outer wall 3d is projected a material distance from the side of the section in order that reed may be introduced into the trough without re= moving the same from the section. The chicks within the section have access to the feed within the trough through the space between the inner wall 33 and the downwardly and. outwardly inclined mesh wall portion 38.
Seated on the end piece 1l at the opposite end or the section from the mesh wall 20 is a removable water trough 4.0 which is provided at its ends with brackets il for engagement by pivoted buttons 42 to maintain the trough in position against the upright posts l adjacent thereto. The mesh Wall 19 depending from the upper end members e includes a portion 43 which merges in spaced relation to the troughv in a downwardly and outwardly inclined portion i4 terminating in a vertical portion 45 projecting into the trough. Disposed within the trough 40 and extending lengthwise thereof is an angular mesh partition i6 which extends across the vertical plane of the portion l5 at an inclination and adjacent the latter. The mesh wall portion 45 and partition 46 coact to divide the trough 40 into an inner and outer compartment. The trough d0 projects a material distance from the end of the section in order that water may be admitted thereto without removing the trough, and the chicks within the section may have access to the water within through the space between the upper edge of the later and the downwardly and outwardly inclined mesh wall portion 44.
ln general it may be stated that the broeder section constitutes a brooder chamber d? at one end of the section, and a feeding chamber d8 at the opposite end of the section, the chambers 47 and i8 being in communication throughout substantially the entire area of the section in order that the chicks may pass freely from one cl'iain.-= ber to the other.
It is thought that the many advantages of a brooder in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred em= bodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be made, so long as such changes tall within the scope of the invention as donned in the appended claims.
