INVEN TOR Patented Sept. 23, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ALOIS SOUGEK, OF PRAGUE, CZECHOSLOVAKIA, ASSIGNORlO JULIUS PIESEN, OF
- PRAGUE, CZECHOSLOVAKIA APPARATUS FOR MASSAGE COMBINED WITH ELECTRIZATION Application filed August 31, 1928, Serial No. 303,272, and in Czechoslovakia September 2, 1927.
The object of the present invention is to provide a self-contained apparatus for mas- 'sage combined with electrization to which electric current need not be outside.
Two forms of execution of the apparatus according to the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawing. Fig. 1 is a schematic longitudinal section of the apparatus according to one form of execution. Another form of execution of this apparatus is shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 in three different elevations with the cover removed, in Fig. 5 in elevation with the cover affixed, in Fig. 6 in a longitudinal section, and in Fig. 7 in crosssection along the line X-X.
According to the first form of execution (Fig. 1) the apparatus comprises Within a horse-shoe magnet 1 a rotor 2 fixed to a spindle 3 which is provided at one end with a toothed wheel 4 meshing with the spur gearing 5 of the massage-roller 6, and near its other end with two contact-discs 7 and 8 which cooperate with sliding contacts 9 and 10. The disc 7 is insulated from the spindle 3 and is constantly in touch with the sliding-contact 9; the cam-disc 8 which is conductively connected with the spindle 3, serves to create electric impulses. The winding of the rotor 2 is connected up at one end to the spindle 3, at the other end to the cover 11 made of electrically conductive material. The rotation of the roller 6 is transmitted to the rotor 2 by means of the gearing l5 and supplied from the spindle 3, thus creating electric impulses which are propagated to the body of the person treated, the roller 6 forming one and the cover 11 held by the hand of the person treated a second contact with his body.
The apparatus according to the second form of execution (Figs. 2 to 7) comprises two rollers 12, 13, both fixed to a shaft 14 which is rotatably mounted in two shoulders 15, 16 of a flat metal ring 17 fixed to horseshoe magnet 18, the shoulders 15, 16 and the ring 17 forming a clip. The roller 12 is insulated from the shaft 14: and provided with spur gearing 19 with which meshes the toothed wheel 20 of the spindle 21, on which is fixed the rotor 22. Near its other end which projects beyond the magnet 18, the spindle 21 carries two contact- discs 23, 24, which cooperate with the sliding contacts 25, 26. The'disc 23 is insulated from the spindle 21 and is constantly in touch with the sliding-contact 25 the cam-disc 24 serves to produce electric impulses. Both the sliding contacts 25, 26 are connected conductively by means of the bracket 27 with the magnet 18, the former being fastened to the latter by means of the plate 28 and the screwbolt 29 ig. 7). The cover 11 is insulated from the metal ring 17 by means of a non conductive ring 30. The winding of the rotor 12 is connected up at one end to the spindle 21, at the other end to the disc 23. The rotation of the roller 12 is transmitted to the rotor 22 thus producing electric impulses which are propagated to the body of the person treated, the rollers 12 and 13 forming the two contacts with his body.
In order to regulate the strength of the electricimpulses, a conductive bridge 31 is provided, which inter-connects the two arms of the magnet 18, is slidingly guided along these arms, and provided with a non-conductive projection 32 which is guided in a slot 33 of the cover 11 so that the bridge 31 can be shifted from without.
WVhat I claim is:
Apparatus for massage combined with electrical treatment, comprising incombination a massage roller secured to its shaft, :1. second massage roller carried by said shaft but insulated from the same, a magnet, a spindle rotatably journaled in the magnet, a rotor fastened to said spindle, gearing operatively connectingsaid spindle with the second massage roller, a magnet, a contact-disc carried by said spindle but insulated from the same, a cam disc secured to the spindle and two contact blades co-operating with said discs, the two contact blades being conductively connected with the magnet so that the magnet forms a part of the circuit.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ALOIS SOUCEK.
