IMPROVEMENT IN Specication forming part 'of Letters Patent No.

March To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES EDWIN TARBox, of Lynn, ofthe county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful or Improved PackingCase for Tubular Glassware; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following` specification and represented in the accompanying' drawings, of Which- Figure l is aside View, Fig. 2 a vertical and longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 a vertical and transverse section, of it.

The box, with its appurtenances, as described,and constituting myinventiom is designed to receive and hold securely, in a manner to prevent from being broken in transit, a series of lamp-chimneys or other tubular articles of glass, or other fragile Ware lof like character.

In the said drawings, Adenotes a box, having within it and near its bottom a board, B, arranged parallel thereto, and on springs C C, interposed between it and such bottom... Another such board, D, is also placed in the b ox, near the cover a, and having between it and the said cover other springs C C', to support it to the said board. In each of the boards there is a series ot' holes or sockets, b b b, those 0f one boa-rd being in number equal to and directly opposite those of the other. These holes are to receive the ends of a series of chimney-supporters, E E, Snc., each being composed 0f a standard, S, shaped as shown,

and provided with bunches, d d d, of manila grass, bristles, or some other analogous elastic material, extended from it in a manner as rep- PACKING-Boxes.

f One or more lamp-chimneys, G G, may be placed on or made to encompass each of the supporters E, as described, a piece of pasteboard, 1),' having a hole through its middle, being arranged on the standard, and between the top ot' one chimney and thebottom ofthe next one above. The elastic arms of each the chimneys thereof out of contact with the standard going through such chimneys, but also out of contact with the chimneys on the next adjacent supporters, and in a manner to prevent the chimneys encompassing such arms from being broken during'transportation or movement of the case from place to place.

The boards B and D and their supportingsprings afford to the supporters Eelastic bearings, which also aid in preventing breakage of the chimneys by any sudden blow on'the case, or fall of such case upon the ground or a ioor.

I claimas described, composed of the box A, the boards B D, and their sustaining-springs C C', and the series of supporters E, all arranged, applied, and constructed substantially as set forth.
