folder, of means for displaying the articleorgoods sold in a simulation. of its position when in use. Another object is the provision of an advertising or display folder which shall display the article or goods being ads vertised and shall also provide graphic demonstration of its use together with descriptive material. Another object is the provision of an advertising or display folder which when folded will be ready to be addressed and mailed.
Other objects will appear from time to time in the course of the specification and claims.
I illustrate my invention more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings, wherein- V Figure 1 illustrates the folder blank in openposition;: z
Figure 2 illustrates the blank partly folded;.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the folder in the closed and sealed position;
Figure 4 is asection along the line of-Figure 3; l
Figure 5' is a section along the line 55 of Figure 3; and
Figure6 is a perspective view of'the folder addressed for mailing. v Like parts are indicated by like symbols throughout the specification and drawings.
Referring to Figure 1, which illustrates the folder or the folder blanks in extended position, A generally indicates a central portion of theblank in the form of a rectangle which may carry, for example adjacent its bottom, a sample A of the goods being advertised. It may carry for example, a display or sample of felt adapted to be positionedbeneath a rug, although it will be understood that I do not Wish to limit myself to the display of any specific article or goods except so far as limited thereto by the precise language of my claims. A indicates descriptive material or text on theportion A ofthe blankwhiclr may refer to the sample A displayed.
Continuing the blank A at each long side thereof are the extensions B, B In case. the sample A is of considerable.thicknessthe sections B B maybe joined to the central section A by intermediate side members B which increase in width from the top to the bottom of each side of the member A..
The member B may carry on its inner face any suitable text B and preferably is apertured as at'B such apertureoverlying. the, sample A On the opposite side of the blank" 13 I may indicate as at B any suitable design which is built around the aperture Bf- I illustrate for example a carpet which. includes the cut away portion or aperture B which therefore discloses, as part of the carpetthe sampleA v A vacuum cleaner is in-v cluded in the representation B to indicate. that the felt may be cleaned by a vacuum cleaner The blank B may be provided on its inner side with any suitable text B 'aiid' may carry, if desired, the return postcard B". It is further apertured' as at B in such fashion that the apertures 13* and B overlap or overlie eaclrother when the portions B B are folded together over the central portion A. V
The opposite. side of the blank B, may carrying any suitable representation'as at B in which the aperture B is included to illustrate the sample A as part of the representation.
'Along'the lower edge of the central portion AI'show a tab or. tongue C connected to it by the intermediate or connectin hinge portion C. When the device is ready to be mailed theportions B, B are folded over. each other and over the central portion A in such fashion that the apertures B and. 3 overlie. The tongue Cis then inserted through the aperture, thus looking or closing the assembled folder. If desired a sticker C may be employed to complete the closure and the device is ready to be addressed and mailed. The sticker and the tongue may both be used or, if desired. the tongue may be eliminated the sticker C or any other MCKIERNAN, OF CHICAGO; ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO GEO. F. MGKIERNAN 8t (30., OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS; A CQRPORATIGN OF ILLINOIS suitable securing means, being employed to hold the device closed.
It will be realized that whereas I have described and shown a practical and operative device, nevertheless I Wish my description and drawings to be taken as in a broad sense illustrative and diagrammatic rather than as limiting me specifically to the shape and proportions or to the location and shape of apertures or to the designs or representations employed. Many modifications or changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In an advertising folder, a central section, a plurality of overlapping side sections hinged along opposite edges of the central section, a tongue member hinged along another edge of the central section, the first mentioned overlapping members being apertured, the apertures being positioned to overlie each other when the folder is folded together, the tongue being adapted to be in serted through said apertures and to hold the folder closed, and a sample of the goods being advertised associated with the folder and positioned to underlie the apertures when the folder is folded together.
2. In an advertising folder, a central section, a plurality of overlapping side sections hinged along opposite edges of the central section, a tongue member hinged along another edge of the central section, the first mentioned overlapping members being apertured, the apertures being positioned to overlie each other when the folder is folded together, the tongue being adapted to be in serted through said apertures and to hold the folder closed, a sample of the goods being advertised associated with the folder and positioned to underlie the apertures when the folder is folded together, and pictorial designs on said side sections which incorporate the exposed portion of the sample.
3. In an advertising folder, a central section, a plurality of overlapping side sections hinged along opposite edges of the central section, a tongue member hinged along another edge of the central section, the first mentioned overlapping members being apertured, the apertures being positioned to overlie each other when the folder is folded together, the tongue being adapted to be inserted through said apertures and to hold the folder closed, and a sample of the goods being advertised associated with the folder and positioned to underlie the apertures when the folder is folded together, the folders and the sample being positioned adjacent the end of the folder where the tongue is located.
4. In an advertising folder, a central sec tion, a plurality of overlapping side sections hinged along opposite edges of the central section, a tongue member hinged along another edge of the central section, the first mentioned overlapping members being apertured, the apertures being positioned to overlie each other when the folder is folded together, the tongue being adapted to be inserted through said apertures and to hold the folder closed, and a sample of the goods being advertised associated with the folder and positioned to underlie the apertures when the folder is folded together, the folders and the sample being positioned adjacent the end of the folder where the tongue is located, the side sections being connected to the central section by intermediate hinged sections adapted to compensate for the thickness of the sample.
5. In an advertising folder, a central section, a plurality of overlapping side sections hinged along opposite edges of the central section, a tongue member hinged along another edge of the central section, the first mentioned overlapping members being apertured, the apertures being positioned to overlie each other when the folder is folded to gether, the tongue being adapted to be inserted through said apertures and to hold the folder closed, and a sample of the goods being advertised associated with the folder and positioned to underlie the apertures when the folder is folded together, the folders and the sample being positioned adjacent the end of the folder where the tongue is located, the side sections being connected to the central section by intermediate hinged sections adapted to compensate for the thickness of the sample, and increasing progressively in width from the end of the folder farthest from the tongue and sample.
6. In an advertising folder, a central section, a plurality of overlapping side sections hinged along opposite edges of the central section, the overlapping sections being apertured, the apertures being positioned to overlie each other when the folder is folded together, and means for holding the folder so formed closed, and a sample of the goods being advertised associated with the folder and positioned to underlie and appear through the above mentioned apertures when the folder is folded together, and a tongue adapted to penetrate said apertures and to hold said overlapping sections in position above the central section, and to overlie said sample.
7. In an advertising folder, a central sec tion, a plurality of overlapping side sections hinged along opposite edges of the central section, the overlapping sections being apertured, the apertures being positioned to overlie each other when the folder is folded together, and means for holding the folder so formed closed, and a sample of the goods being advertised associated with the folder and positioned to underlie and appear through the above mentioned apertures when the folder is folded together, and a tongue adapted to penetrate said apertures and to hold said overlapping sections in position above the central section, and to overlie said 1 sample, and pictorial designs on said side sections which incorporate the exposed portion of the sample.
