Description

Patented Sept. 9,. 1930 UNITED STATES CABL HOFMANN, OF BERLIN, GERMANY STRETCHING AND SMOOTI-IENING DEVICE FOR NEGKTIES Application filed January 6, 1928, Serial No. 244,832,,and in Germany November 28, 1827,
This, invention relates to a stretching and smoothening device for neck-ties and has for its general object to provide a device of this kind by means of which it will be possible to easily and conveniently stretch and smoothen out neck-ties in order to remove the wrinkles which are produced during Wearing the same.
- The device according to my invention consists essentially of an oblong strap with slightly tapering longitudinal edges, said strap being made. from paper-board, wood, metal, galalith, hard-rubber or similar material and having one or both of its surfaces 16 slightly roughened. In order to stretch and smoothen out a neck-tie which may have become wrinkled during wearing the same, the
wrinkled tie is merely pulled over the stretching device after said slightly roughened surface or surfaces have been slightly wettened. Thus. for instance, the tie which is taken off at night may be pulled over said slightly wctted device and again be put on in perfectly smooth condition with all wrinkles removed therefrom.
The stretching and smoothening effect which is exerted on the tie by said device will be greatly improved according to my invention by providing said slightly roughened surface or surfaces 'on the strap. For this purpose a great number of fine grooves or the like may be provided on said surface or surfaces. The roughened surface of the stretching device if wetted by means of a wet towel or sponge will now easily retain a certain small. amount of moisture which will essentially enhance the effect of stretching andsmoothening of the tie.
The two parts of the strap, moreover may be connected with each other by means ofa hinge or hinges, said 'hinge or hinges permitting to fold one part flat upon the other. In this case on either side of the hinge small locking straps may be provided by means of which said hinge may be locked condition of the devlce. p
In the accompanying drawing I have shown two examples of construction of my new stretching and smoothening device for in unfolded neck-ties. Fig. 1 shows my new stretchingand smoothening device in its most sim le form, while Fig. 2 shows a further modified form comprising a strap made of two or more parts which are properly connected by a hinge permitting the device to be folded to- .55 gether. V
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, Fig. 1" shows the stretching and smoothening device'in the form of a plain flat strap of oblong conformation with slight- 1y tapering longitudinal edges, which strap may be made from paper-board, wood, metal, galalith, hard-rubber or similar material. According to my invention the strap is provided at its front part on one or both of its surfaces with a greater number of fine grooves, recesses or the like, indicated at a in Figs. 1 and 2. According to Fig. 2 the stretching and smoothening device is made in two parts 6 and cwhich are connected with '10 each other by a hinge e permitting folding and unfolding the device. The hinge e is further provided according to myinvention with locking members 7 and g which serve for locking the device when in unfolded con- 7 dition, thus keeping the two members b and 0 of the device'in straight condition ready for being inserted into a tie.
Iclaim: m1.
A stretching and smoothening device for neck-ties, conslsting of an oblong stra having tapering longitudinal edges foll dwirig the conformation of a tie and permitting said device to be inserted into a tie for stretching and smoothening the same, at least one sur- 8t face of said strap being slightly roughened to retain only a small amount of moisture,
substantially .as described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. to
' CARL HOFMANN.
