This invention relates to button loops constructed in two parts, a loop proper and a button retaining member depending therefrom, the device being employed to connect a strap with a button carried by a garment,
or the like, intended to be supported by the strap.
The objects of the invention are to provide a simple means of connecting a button retain- 0 ing member with the loop proper to permit objects,
the independent expansion of both members; and to provide a two-part button loop the members of which are relatively fixed against pivotal movement.
Y The invention consists in the novel constructions, to be hereinafter described or claimed, for carrying out the above stated and such other objects as may hereinafter appear.
The character of the invention may be best understood by reference to one illustrative device embodying the invention and illustratedby the figures in the accompanying drawing in which the Figure 1 is an elevation of a two-part button loop in a normally contracted conditlon; andthe F igure 2 1s a sum- 7 lar elevation, but illustrating the button loop in an expanded condition.
The invention is not limited to any specific form of construction and the details of the device may be varied to produce the novel features hereinafter claimed, the device as illustr'ated, however,v is a two-part button loop of which the loop proper provides a sus pension loop 1, a button receiving loop or eye 2, anormally contracted throat portion 3, and depending arms 4 and 5 providing attaching means 6 and 7 for engagement with the other member which provides a second normally contracted throat portion 8 and the button retaining loop 9. The button loop proper is preferably formed of a piece of resilient wire a middle portion of which is bent to form the suspension loop 1,, the remaining end portions of the wire depending from the suspension loop 1 to provide the side arms 4 and 5 forming the button receiving loop 2 and the contracted throat portion 3, thewire extremities then diverging to form the laterally spaced looped ends 6 and 7 1929. The button retaining member is preferably formed of a piece of resilient 'wire the middle portion of which is bent 'to form the retaining loop 9, and the remaining end portions are bent inwardly to form the contracted throat 8, one of the novel features of novelty of which this invention constitutes, the end portions then diverging and the wire extremities being formed into the elongated loops 10 and 11 lying in the plane of the button retaining loop. The manner of connecting the two parts of the device forms another of the fea tures of novelty of the invention. In interlooping the attaching loops 6 and 7 with the lower bar portions of the loops 10 and 11, respectively, the arm 4; is made to snugly engage one side of the upper bar of the loop 10 while the arm 5 is made to snugly engage the reverse side of the upper bar of the loop 11 tomaintain a rigid assembly as regards relative pivotal movement, but permitting a relative sliding movement in both lateral direct-ions, each of the loops l0 and 11, in its interlooped engagement with the respective loops 4 and 5, being adapted to normally rest intermediately as regards the elongated loops. A button being received within the loop 2, the button shank 12, resting in the position illustrated by the Figure 1, may be urged downwardly to operate and expand the throat portion '3 as illustrated by the Figure 2. It is obvious that the shank 12 may be further urged to likewise operate and expand the throat portion 8 and assume its final position Within the retaining loop 9 behind the two contracted throats,-the resiliency of the wire forming each part being relied upon to return the throat portions to their normally contracted condition. The reverse action upon the release of the shank 12 from behind the contracted throats 8 and 3 is, of course, similar to that already explained with regard to the entrance of the shank 12 to the retaining loop 9, and, in both instances of entrance and release, the movement of the device along its plane may, of course, be substituted for the forced movement of the button, the relative rigidity of the assembled parts against pivotal movement being advantageous for this purpose.
I claim:
1. A button loop comprising a suspension member having an open button receiving eye terminating in an expansible contracted throat and diverging ends, a button retaining member, and looped connections provided by the members and permitting a relative lateral sliding movement, the connection including stops maintaining the members relatively rigid against pivotal movement.
2. A button loop comprising a suspension member having an open button receiving eye terminating in an expansible contracted throat and divergingends, a button retaining memberhaving an expansible contracted throat and diverging ends, and looped connections provided by the diverging ends of both members and permitting a relative lateral sliding movement, the connection including stops maintaining the members relatively rigid against pivotal movement. A button loop comprising a suspension member'havingan open button recelvlng eye terminating in an expansible contracted throat and diverglngr ends, a button retaining member havingan expansible contracted throat and diverging ends, and connecting means provided by the diverging ends of both members and permitting a relative -lat-.
