` eraan-Non. o. "serra or inpraneroms. rumana Y1mi);Aron-Boxfrese. VEND oLosUR This invention relates to housing boxes for steam or hot water radiators "and deals par ticularly with means' for obtaining a tight fit of theboxbaseahoutginterconnecting nip- 5 plesofftheradiator c oilsV or sections.
i The radiator boxes referred to herein arev 'housirlgrfy about' radiator sections through which' an'N mayl he drawn and passedv across Vthesection's `for the purpose of heating and l 10 Ventilating-a vroem. The hoX hase is that part of the' housing which encloses thelower ends ofthe sections. Y Heretoforefl considerable diculty has beenencountered in providingafsuitable yclosure of the hoX base 15 around the section-connecting nipples so as to provide a tight closure so as to prevent air from leaking out onto the ioorof the room. g
Itis the primaryobject of this invention 20 to provide a simple and eiiicient means yfor readily closing a gap in the end of the box base that will -also'serve as means 'for retains ing the upper housing in alignment across `its junctiony with its hoxhase. Another'oloject also is to vprovide such means as may be in serted after. the. radiator and .looxv hase Vare assembled one withthe other. Another object resides in the economy'eifected bythe employment of the invention inthe saving goof material as wellasof labor in installatio.. f 'i' Theseand other objects will become appar.-y

Y
wt is thus to be seen in the foregoing deseription that the heretofore troublesome problem of edectinga closure about the radiator section connecting nipple issolved and that a very neat structure is effected that performs the combined function of closing the gap above the nipple as Well as receiving, operating, and aligningthe ends of the radiator housing all accomplished by simply inserting the plate 19 into position without the need of tools or additional parts.
I claim:
l. In a radiator boX, a base having a radiator section nipple opening out through one end from the upper edge, a plate adapted to Contact the tace of the base end hafing its lower end cut tot snugly over a nipple noing through said opening, and a chan- Ategrally formed along the top edge ot he plate to l'ioolf; over the top edge `of said ase and present an opening into the channel along the top side, rand a piece carried 'by said plate having guiding edges'adagtedto Contact the sides of said opening.;V
2. Ina radiator box, a boxbase havingl a 'kl-shaped opening lout down from the top edge in ,anv end 'of the base, a housing having an adjoining end extending across the end oi said base, a'plate having an' upper hook engaging over the lop edge ofthe base to carry said plate across said opening, and achannel `extending from the plateand receiving the under edges of said housing ends therein, the under side of said plate being cut away in aseini-circle whereby a substantially circular hole is liormedv in the base end,the 'upper boundary oi' which is the under edge oi" theplate and the lower boundary of which is the lower end of said opening.
3. In al radiator box, vabox base. having a U-shaped opening'cut down from the top end by the thickness of the edge in an end ofuthebase, ahousing havingl Y Vadjoining ends extending across the end ol said base, a plate having an upper hook engaging'over the top edgeoin theV base to carry said platel across said opening, 'and channel extending from the-plate and. receiving' the under edges ot said housing ends therein, the under side of said plate being eut away whereby afsubstantially circular hole is formed in thev base end, the upper bonndfriY d the lower boundary ofriv'hioh is the lower end Y of'said opening, and a piece Vear-"fied by said l*plate lilling in Ysaid opening above said hole.
' e. A newr articleV et' manufacture comprising' al plat-e haringen semiloircular ,shaped Y lower edge and a channel aerossrits top formed by bending the tep'endaren-1ddew-nand linallyi'upwardly', the channel end belonger than :the lowerend.Y f Y f f 5.v A new artiele of mannfaet-u-re een-aprising a plate having a semi-circular shaped eurved substantially semi-circular, the upper end of said depending member being engaged by said channel member, and the lateral edges et the depending l1,1l61nber being sul stantially tangential Vto the curve of its 'c er side, and a plate extending from each lateral edge or" the depending member spaced parallel to but rearwardly from its front 7. A radiator box base opening closure comprising a horizontal member adapted to ouvrageover the edge of the box, and a plate depending from said member, and a piece Ve: m.
in a parallel plane with -the plate to lit in said opening.v c
