'bed and cylinder two color printing press in which a single impression cylinder of com paratively small size is caused to retain the sheet thereon for both printings, thereby ensuring perfect register and obviating the ne cessity of transferring the sheet after its first printing'on one impression cylinder to another impression" cylinder for its second printing.
My invention further consists in a printing press of this character in which the sin gle impression cylinder is arranged to make six revolutions during a complete reciprocation of the bed; the impression cylinder making three revolutions in one direction on the forward or printing stroke of the bed and three revolutions in the opposite direction on the return or non-printing stroke of the bed; the sheet being printed twice and then transferred to the delivery mechanism during the three revolutions of the impression cylinder in one direction and then conveyed to and deposited on the delivery table during the three revolutions of the cylinder in the opposite direction. 1
The object of my invention is to not only ensure more perfect printing register but also to materially reduce'the weight and cost of theprinting press and also to bring the feed and delivery mechanisms down into convenient position. for the operator.
A motive fiuidmeans is shown for reciprocating the formbed, such means forming the subject matter of my copending application filedof even date herewith, its serial number being 282,997. r
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Fig. 1 represents the printing press in side elevation with the parts in the positions they assume when the form bed is about to start on its forward or printing stroke, the impression cylinder is about to take a sheet from the feed board and a twice printed sheet is being deposited on to the delivery table by theconveying means of the delivery-mechanism.

The sheet feed table of any well known orapproved sheet feeding mechanism is de-- noted by 7 and its feedguideby'S. The singleimpression cylinder ,is denoted by 9 and its :sheetgrippers'by 10. "The sheet delivery mechanism may be of any well known or approved form and it is shown herein as comprising adelivery table 11, a reciprocating conveying means 12 and the guides 18, 14 for directing the twice printed sheets from the impression cylinder to the reciprocating conveying means. 3 The motive fluid means for reciprocating the form bed is denoted generally by 15 and will not be specifically described herein as it forms the subject matter of my copending application hereinbefore referred to.
. The impression cylinder 9, thecircumference of which is substantially one-third the stroke of the bed 2 is geared at all times to generally by 11-8.
The several devices for controlling the passage of the sheet to and from the impression cy 'nder will be described generally but not in detail, as they may be 0 any well known or approved construction.
In the present instance the bed is provided on oneiside theredl with a feed guide operating cam 19 arranged in position to engage the enroller 2O onthelower end of the bar fligftfie npper eiid ejftvhich is conneetedto' the rockieve'r 22 which controls the operation of the feed guide 8 to release the sheet as the cylinder is about to startbn its first revolution. a

To ensure the positive feed of the sheet from the impression cylinder to the delivery mechanism I provide coact- ing rollers 53, 54, adjacent the guides 13, 14 and I also provide rollers 55 arranged to be brought into engagement with the sheet while on the impression cylinder, said rollers 55 being carried by one arm 56 of a rock lever, the other arm 570i which is-connected by a rod 58 to one arm 59 of another rock lever, said last named rock lever having an arm 60 carrying a stud or roller 61 arranged to be engaged by a cam 62 carried by a gear 63 which meshes with a gear 64 fast on the impression cylinder shaft 65 exterior to the frame 1. a
It will be seen from the above description that I have provided a bed and cylinder printing press in which the necessity of transferring the sheet between its first and second printings is obviated. I: have also been able to rovide a relatively small impression cyl- India, thereby materially reducing the weight and expense of the press and also bringing the' feed and delivery mechanisms down into a more accessible'position for the operator.
'It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my in vention, hence I do not intend to be limited to the, particular embodiment hereinshown and described, but a i 1 What'I claim is: 1
