Description

July 29, 1930. H. Hgcox 1,771,917
BRASSIERE Filed Nov; 20, 1928 @www N'VNTfW @www ATTORNEY Patented July 29, 1930 4UNITED STATES HAZEL I HIGGINS COX, OF NEW YORK,y N. Y.
Baassrnma Application led November 20, 1928. Serial No. 320,567.
This invention relates to garments, and in particular to a bust supporter or brassire.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved form of combined girdle 5 and bust supporter closely associated together of extremely light material adapted to closelyiit and support the busts by means of strapsextending over the shoulders of the wearer. y
Another object of the invention is to provide alight girdle and bust supporter preferably of net material having a elt or girdle ortion adapted to extend about the wearer just below the busts and formed integrally with bust enclosing and suplporting portions closely fitting the Sbusts, t e belt or girdle portion being extended rearwardly to completely encircle the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide a brassire having bust supports made u of a pluralityof sections or gores preferagly of net material, three gores of special form being used to form a cu -like support enclosing each bust, the gores eing 'stitched together and to a spacing member at the front central portion of the garment, and to the belt sections at their' opposite ends. And'nall it is another object of the invention to p/rovi e a plurality of straps joined at spaced points to the upper edge of each bust enclosin portion, the straps from each bust support ein joined together in front of the shoulder an attached at the back to the rear portions of the irdle. l
Wgith these and other objects in view my in-t vention includes the features of construction set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing annexe hereto and formlng a part of this specification, Ihave shown my invention embodied in a simple form of bust su port and girdle of net material, but it will e understood that the invention can be otherwise embodied, and that the drawing is not to be construed as defining or limiting the scope of the invention, the claim appended to this specification being relied upon for that purpose.
n the drawing- Fig. 1 is a front view of the improved form of arment shown in position upon a wearer; 1g. 2 is a 1an view of the garment shown apart from t e wearer;
Fig. 3 is a View of the individual members or gores forming the girdle and bust supports shown in the position assumed when the garment is ready to be stitched together. i
In the above mentioned drawin I have -shown but one embodiment of the invention which -is now ldeemed preferable, but it is to 00 be understood that changes and modifications may be made Within the scope of the append- 7 ed claim without departing from the spirit of the invention. l
Referring more in"` detail to the figures of the drawing, I yprovide'an improved arment, preferably of net material, adapte to form a girdle portion and bust support. The bust su porting portions of the garment comprise t ree rmcipal ores 10, 11 and 12, adapted to stitche `together lalong the dot and dash lines as indicated in Fig. 3, at
- 13-13 and 1li-14. The front adjacent edges of thegores 10 *and 11 are attached to a central spacer member 15 which properly spaces the gores 10, 11 and 12 to roperly fit the form of the wearer. It will) be understood that the disposition of the gores will be re-` versed upon opposite sides of the garment. The opposite or outer ends ofthe gores v10 and 12 are attached to side or belt members 16 adapted to'extend about theback of the wearer and be joined together b any suitable fastening means 17, shown in ig. 2. j
The three gores 10, 11 and 12 forming each of the bust supports comprise an upper elongated gore member 10 'with a downwardly curved lower edge. This curved edge is atd tached throughout its length to the upper cu/ived edges of the two lower goremembers 11 and 12. The lower gore members 11 and 12 have concaved confronting edges stitched together so that with these two seams 13 and 14 stitched together a pocket or bust supporting portion of the garment is completely formed and adapted to closely fit over and enclose and support thebust.
It` will be noted that the lower gore members 11 and 12 at their edges 14, which are stitched together are oppositely curved rela- 'ports of the tively to each other so that when the seam formed by joining these edges 14 is stitched the lower portions of the lower gore members will form a substantial girdle like p0rv tion 18 for the garment extending just below each bust and under the arms of the wearer. Above this girdle portion of the gores 11 and 12 is formed the lower portion of the bust support which encloses and supports the lower portion of the bust. These upper portions of the gores 11 and 12, together with the upper gore 10 substantiallly enclose the bust and support it with the aid of the belt portions 16. The girdle portion 18 prevents the brassire from riding up over the busts and retains it closely and firmly in position. The upper edge of the upper goremember eX- tends over and confines the bust and has attached to it a strap 19, adapted to pass over the shoulders of tached to the side or belt members at'its opposite ends. Preferably additional stra-ps 2O may be attached to this main strap 19 from separated points at the upper edge ofthe brassire in order to aid in holding substantially the entire upper part of the bust supgarment in position over the form of the wearer.
I claim:
A brassire comprising bust supporting vportions each including an upper elongated gore member having a downwardly curved lower edge, lower gore members for each upper gore member and having curved upper edges secured to the lower edges of the upper gore members, the lower gore members for each upper gore member having concaved confronting edges secured together and cooperating with the upper gore members vto. provide breast receiving pockets, secured to lthe gore members between the pockets and side members secured to the gore members.
HAZEL HIGGINS COX.
