Serial No. 316,063.
I This invention relates to a book holding device and pertains particularly to a holder designed especially for telephone books.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a holder adapted to be secured to a suitable support such as a wall or the like and to receive and hold a telephone book in such a manner that the same can be readily obtained for reference and returned to the holder after having been used.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved type of bracket which may be secured in position and to which the book holder proper may be removably attached.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a holding device of the character described so formed that a book therein may be easily grasped to be removed therefrom and it may be easily inserted thereinto.
Further objects and advantages of this invention-will become apparent as the description proceeds and the invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of the present invention with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a View of the book holder embodying the present invention the same being shown partly in elevation and partly in vertical section;
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view of i the book holder;
Figure 3 is a view in side elevation of the holder supporting bracket.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 indicates as a whole the supporting bracket for the present book holder, this bracket, as shown, being in the form of a channel shaped member having the back or.
web 2 and the parallel side members 3 and 4.
The side member 4 of the bracket is of materially greater width than the member 3 and also extends at its ends beyond the ends of the'member 3 being provided with the apertures 5 designed to receive securing elements such as screws or the like when the bracket is secured to a supporting device.
The lower end of the back or web portion 2 of the bracket has a tongue 6 projecting therefrom over the forward face thereof, this tongue being positioned between the side members 8 and 4 and in relatively close proximity to the back by which it is carried.
A second tongue member 7 extends upwardly from the upper end of the back f the bracket, this tongue being bent to project slightly forwardly thereof in the manner shown for the purpose hereinafter described.
The bracket 1 receives between the mem bers 3 and 4 thereof the back portion 8 of a casing indicated as a whole by the numeral 9. This casing is of sufficient width to receive a telephone book or any other book which is to be supported thereby, the side members 10 of the casing extending from the back portion 8 a suflicient distance to substantially cover the sides of the book.
The lower portion of the casing is provided with the bottom 11 which prevents the book from dropping therefrom and the walls 10 are curved throughout as shown, having their outer edge portions sharply curved laterally as indicated at 12.
The back 8 of the casing is provided with a pair of transverse slots 13, that portion of the back lying directly below each slot being bent inwardly slightly as indicated at 14. These slots are separateda distance equal to the distance between the lower ends of the tongues 6 and 7 and when the casing is arranged in the bracket with each of the slots above a tongue and is then slipped downwardly each of the tongues will enter a slot and project into the casing in the manner shown thus supporting the same in the bracket.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the device herein described may be readily placed upon a wall or other suitable supporting structure adjacent a phone and served to support a book in such manner that it may be readily obtained for inspection.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A book supgort of the character described, comprising a racket, said bracket compris- 5 ing a wall engaging member and a plurality of spaced securing members outstanding therefrom and a book holder adapted to be removabl mounted on said securing members, sai book holder having spaced side members, a slotted rear portion and a bottom portion, said slotted rear portion being adapted to enga e said securin members whereby to remove ly hold the b ook holder on the bracket. In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
MAUDE RODERICK.
