Description

Patented July 1, 1930 stesa a oFFice Y GEORGE sonnIHING, or MORNING sUN, IowA Gaumen j Application filed August 5, 1926. Serial 110,127,432.
to provide a crutchwhich will be adjustable for use by persons of various heights. With the foregoing and other objects in v View which will appear as the 'description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and inthe details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, y it being understoodA ythat changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention;
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is afront elevational view of a` crutch constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is Aan elevational view of one edge of the crutch. v
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view ofthe crutch. j
Referring to the drawing in dean, the
-crutch includes a lower section 5 and anV upper section 6, the upper section 6 includingy a lower member 7 provided with openings for the reception of the securing bolts 8.
rlfhese bolts 8 alsopass through the elongated opening 9 of the upper section 6 so t that theupper section may be adjusted with respect to the inner section toadapt the device for use by persons of various heights.`
The sect-ions 5 and 6 are pivotally connected, the connection being made by means of the bolt 10 which passes through the member 7 and an opening formed in thev upper end of the member 5 as clearly shownv Y` byrligu're 2 of the drawings.
Formedv in the member 7 is opening ing an .opening adaptedy to registery with'the ment, and means for securing v my own, I have heretojaliixed my signature. that is adapted to register with an opening f i formed in the lower section 5, when the sections are in their extended positions as shown by the drawing, there being provided a spring arm 11 vsupplied with a. pin adapted tol be extended through the registering openings to hold the sections against pivotal movement at'their points of connection.
The reference character 12 indicates'the knee rest which is supplied with an openingy tov accommodate the bolt 13 that passes 6G, through an elongated opening 14, there being provided asnut 15 on the bolt so that when the knee rest is adjusted within the opening 14, the same may be rsecured in its position of adjustment.
Thus it will be seen that when the device is secured to the leg of a-person .and the straps whichare indicatedjat'lG and17 respectively, are strapped around the body, the
personfmay by pulling the pin carried byv 'arm 11 from 'its` openings, bend forwardly, f
the sections pivoting with Vrespect to each other, thereby eliminating the necessity of the person loosening the. straps inorder to t lean over. 0
At the upper end of the crutch is the usual Y arm piece 18 adapted to lit under thearm of the user, relieving the leg of the entire fweight of the body while the crutch is in use.
I claim: v i
A lcrutch including a lower member and an upper member, the upper member having one-of its side surfaces out away adjacent to-y the lower end thereof, the lower member hav# ing one of its side surfacesl cut away adjacent to its upper end, the cutaway portions of the members being pivotally 'securedjto-V gether, one ofthe cut away'portions having an opening, the other cut away portion havirst mentioned opening, a spring pressed finger` supported on the lower section, said nger adapted to extend throughV the aligning openings of the upper and lower sections to holdthe sections in their position of alignthe lcrutch "to the leg of the user.
In testimony that I claim the 'foregoing'as GEoRGnA VSCHEIVHING.l
