- IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHING HANDLES TO AXES, HAMMERS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. FY6807, dated May 2, 1876; application filed November 11,1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFFERY W. POTTER, of Pcrrysville, in the town of South Kingston, Washington county, Rhode Island, have in- -vented an Improvement in Attaching Handles provided with the projections B B, which extend a suitable distance along the front and back of the handle E to support it. Apin, 0, projects from the ax about midway of these flanges. This pin enters ahole in the end of the handle to steady. and hold it in place, and may be made tapering, so as to spread the end of the handle and better fill the space between the projections B B. A transverse bolt, D, passes through the projections B B andthe handle. It is provided with a nut to secure it, or a screw-thread to engage with a corresponding thread in one of v the flanges B.
By these means handles may be readily and firmly secured to the too's, or removed and re placed, and by a uniform construction of the parts they will become interchangeable, or one handle will be adapted to several tools, and facilitate their attachment and detachment, and save much time and trouble.
Thus, having described my'invention, I
;claim. A'is the ax, formed without an eye, and
The combination of the implement A with the flanges B B, the pint), bolt D, and handle E, as set forth. i
