H. SCHWARTZMAN GARMENT HANGER ATTACHMENT Filed June 14, 1929 by the clip, s
Patented June 24, 1930 HARRY SGHWARTZMAN, QB JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY I GARMENT-HANGER ATTACHMENT Application filed J'une 14,
This invention relates to'aclamp or clip or holding garments on a hanger, the general object of the invention bein to provide a clip of substantially inverted U-shape and formed of such material that it can e adjusted as to its size so that the clip can be pressed over a portion of a arment placed on a hanger, so as to hold t e garment on the hanger, adjustable, the same can of different sizes. I
Another object of the invention-is toprovide the clip or clamp with a lining, preferably of elastic material which not only prevents the clip from soiling the garment, but also acts to increase the holding or clamping action of the clip on the garmenti By attachin the garment to the hanger oplifting is rendered more diflicult, as it would take considerable time for a shoplifter to remove a garment attached to the hanger by the improved clip;
be used on hangers This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and'in' the combination and arran ement of the sevf eral parts, to be hereina r full described,
' illustrated in the accompanying rawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a pers ective view showing one of the devices use to hold a dress on a hanger.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through a hanger, showing the device thereon.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the device before the hning is applied thereto.
Fi re 5 is a view showing a clip attached to a inger by a chain.
' Fi re 6 is a view showing a clip attached to a finger by a lever.
, Figure 7 isan end niewof the clip used with the lever.
Figure 8 is a view of the lever.
and by making the clip placed on a hanger.
1989. Serial No. 370,947.
As is well known, certain kinds of garments, particularly garments of li ht material, such as worn by women and c 'ldren, have a tendency to fall from a hanger, and it is the object of my invention to provide a clip or clamp for fastening a portion of the garment to the hanger, so that the garment cannot fall or be knocked oif the hanger.
As shown in the drawing, the cli or clamp A is of substantially inverted U-s ape and has its limbs formed with the diverging ortions 1, said limbs curving inwardly, as s own at 2, above the junction of the parts 1 with said limbs. The clip is made otsuch material that it can be easil adto fit" hangers, such as B, of di erent sizes by simply bending the chip and the material-has a certain amount o resiliency so asto set up a clamping action when The clip or clamp is also provided with a lining 3 of rubber or composition of rubber or other suitable material and the lining is held in place by having its ends extending under the diverging parts 1,'-- with the extremities of these parts bent over the ends of the lining, as shown at 4... Small V-shaped tongues 5 are formed in the bent-over portions 4 and pressed into the lining to more firmly hold a the lining in'place. As will be seen, the edges extend over the curved-in portions 2 so that this portion of the lining will grip the shoulder portion of the garment G between itself and the hanger when the clip 'is in place so that the clip is firmly retained on the hanger and the garment securely clamped to the hanger. Thus the lining not only acts to keep thevgarment out of contact with the material from which the clip is formed, but it also increases the gripping or clamping action of the device. The flaring portions of the device act as guides so that the device can be readily pressed on to the hanger and will cause the device to adjust itself to the hanger. I
Fi ure 5 shows a chain 6 attached by a ring to the top part of the device and has av ring 8 at its other end which may be slipped over the book 9 of the hanger so that the device remains connected with the ban er at all times and cannot be mislaid.
Flgure 6 shows the device movably attached to the ban er by a lever 10 which has one end pivoted to the hanger, as shown at 11, and its other end is fastened to the device by making one of the diverging portions 1' of greater length than the other diverging portion so as to receive a notched art 10 of the lever, whereby the device 1s fastened to the lever by the bent-over portion 4.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple form of clamp for holdin a garment to a hanger so that there is no anger of the garment falling from or being knocked ofi the hanger.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A clip for attaching a arment to a hanger, comprising a bod o substantially inverted U shape and having its extremities first converging and then diverging, whereby the device can be pressed over a portion of a garment on a hanger, inwardly extending portions at the extremities of the diverging portions, a linin covering the in.-
terior portions of the device and having its ends extending between the diverging portions and the inwardly extending portions and gripped therebetween, to hold the lining in place, said lining being formed of 0 resilient material.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HARRY SCHWARTZMAN.
