Description

June 24, 1930. RAPlSARDl 1,766,541
WHEELED TOY Filed Dec. 8, 1926 Patented June 24, 1930 PATENT OFFICE ALIEIO RAPISARDI, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS WHEELED TOY Application filed December 8, 1926. Serial No. 153,313.
This invention relates to toys of the wheeled type.
It is the chief object of the invention to devise an attractive toy of this general type which will be adapted to hold a flag, banner,
Or the like.
The nature of the invention will be readily understood from the following description when read in connection with the accom- 0 panying drawings, and the novel features will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The single figure of the accompanying drawings is a perspective view of a toy constructed in accordance with this invention,
certain of the parts being broken away.
The toy shown comprises a holder 2 having a socket in the upper part thereof to receive the staff of a flag 4, the hole being sufficiently large to permit the introduction and removal of the staff. This holder is supported on an axle 5 on which are mounted two wheels 66, spacing blocks 77 being placed on the axle between the wheels and the holder 2 to maintain the holder properly centered between the wheels. For convenience in holding the toy, a tongue 8 is provided, this tongue being connected by two metal straps 99 to the axle 5.
It will be observed that the axle 5 or the axis of rotation of the wheels passes through the holder 2 considerably above its center of gravity so that the weight of the holder is so disposed that it is always held by gravity in substantially an upright position. Usually the holder 2 is made of wood, and in order to increase its stability a weight 10 of lead, or other metal, is inserted in the lower part of the holder. The weighted. holder thus will 40 hold the flag staff 3 in substantially an upright position notwithstanding the rotation of the wheels.
The invention thus provides a simple form of toy which can be manufactured economically, and presents a particular appeal to a child because of the use of the flag.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to claim as new is:
In a toy of the character described, the
combination of a flag, a staff therefor, a
position.
