Description

S. HENRY.
TUBE-WELL. No.176.5Z8- Patented AyrilZB, 1876.
UNIT D, STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STEPHEN HENRY, OF M-ARSHFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TUBE-WELLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,528, dated April 25, 1876; application filed April 4, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, STEPHEN HENRY, of Marsh field, Plymouth county, Massachusetts, have invented a new and. Improved Tube- Well, of which the following is a specification: v
My improved tube-well consists of a detachable point for driving, with a shoulder, against which the tube acts, and a shank extending up in the tube, and fitting nicely for a short distance, and then tapering to a point, the object being to secure unobstructed entrance to the tube for the water by raising the tube up to the conical part of the shank after drivin g the plug to the depth required, and in case water is not found when the tube is raised it can be let down on the point again and driven farther. In the common tube-wells in'uch difficulty occurs by the filling of the perforations provided above the point for admitting the water, which this contrivance is calculated to avoid.
Figure 1 is a section of my improved tubewell, the parts being connected together as for driving; and Fig. 2 is a section of the tube and side elevation of the point, the parts being dt taehed as adjusted, after driving, to admit the water to the tube.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the point; B, the shoulder on which the tube rests; O, the shank extending up into the tube; D, the tapered point, and E the tube.
It will be seen that in case water is not found in suflicient quantity after the tube has been raised it can readily be let down again on the point D for driving it still farther.
Having thus described my invention, Iclairn as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The point A, having shoulder B, shank G, and point D, combined with tube E, substantially as specified.
STEPHEN HENRY.
