This invention relates to a rail clamp, the general object of the invention being to provide clamps for holding a rail to a tie so as to prevent the spikes which connect the rail with the tie from working loose and causing the rail to spread or upset.
This invention also consists in certain other features of.k construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fullyY described, illustrated in the accompanying drawingand specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In carrying out my invention, I provide hook shaped clamps 1,one of which has its hook part engaging the base of the rail at one side thereof and the other engages the v edge of the base at the opposite side of the tie. These clamps are connected with the tie by the nails 2, a pair of nails being used for connecting each clamp to the tie, so that there is no danger of the clamp pivoting on the tie. Thus the rail is connected with the tie by a pair of the clamps in addition to the spikes and these clamps prevent movement of the rail relative to the tie, so that there is no danger of the spikes working loose and the spikes and clamps causev the tieto move with the rail. y 1
