This invention relates to an illuminating mechanism adapted to be used in conjunction with measuring pumps which are'used for dispensing liquids, particularly gasoline at s nrvice stations.

Gasoline pumps are in most instances housed within a housing and it is desirable that said housing of the pump be equipped with an indicating card or similar device on which will appear the price of gasoline, usually associated with which is a table giving the computed prices for various numbers of gallons of gasoline at such price per gallon. Gasoline pumps also in many cases have an indicating dial with pointer hands operable thereover which may be setwith respect to the dial at a desired quantity required by a customer and the pump is then operated and pumps the gasoline until automatically stopped when the selected quantity has been pumped as indicated on the dial.

lNith my invention it is possible to simultaneously illuminate both the indicator giving the prices per gallon of the gasoline and the indicating dial whereby the customer may readily see both at night, and whereby it is made easy and convenient for the operator and customer to see the indicator and avoid mistakes which would otherw ise be liable to l u l n u n occur; and with my invention asingle illuminating device serves the purpose of fully and completely illuminating both indicators.

4It is an object and purpose of the present invention to provide a pump with illuminating mechanism by meansof which the advantage enumerated may be efciently and economically attained.

The pump casing 1 is of sheet metal enclosing the pump mechanism andordinarilyat its upper end is equipped with a closing head 2. Indicating hands l'are mounted on a suitable shaft 14a whiche'Xt-ends through the the opposite sidecf'thehousing ,bracket 14, and in practice, extends through a similar dial and cover plate 9, this being for the purpose of permitting the operator to turn the shaft to set the hands 15 at a quantity of gasoline which may be wanted by al customer.

Vithin and under the head 2, and in prac tice supported thereby, is a hollow arm 16 which terminates in an enlargement for receiving an electric light socket 17 inwhich a light bulb 18Al may be carried directly back of the indicating card 6, it being evident that the wires leading to the socket 17 pass through the hollow arm 16. A reflector 19 is attached to the lower lend of the arm 16 and is `curved around the sides and back of the light bulb 18.

When the light is lit the rays of light shine through the indicating card 6, which may be transparent or partially transparent, the gures marked on the card being completely opaque so that the same will show -up prominently. The rays also pass downwardly through the opening at 12 in the ring member around the indicator 18 and illuminate the-face 'of the dial 13 so that it may be very distinctly seen. The customer buying the gasoline is able to check both the amount for which he asks and the price he must pay therefor, both 'indicators being completely and fully illuminated so that this may be easily done, vwhich previously, particularly at night, was more or less difficult. s

The construction while of a simple chan acter'is one of merit and very advantageous in conjunction with dispensing pumps for liquids such as gasoline or the like. `The invention is deiined in the appended claims and is to be considered comprehensive of all forms oit structure coming within their scope.

I claim: Y 1. In a device of the class described, avertical pump enclosing housing having two openings therein, one below the other, in the same side of the housing, an indicating card secured at the upper Aof said openings, a dial and indicating handsmovable thereover, 1a short distance within the housing back of Y the lower opening, a ring member havingan inwardly nextending flange and a vertical flange and having a section including both flangesremoved at its upperside extend-ing through said lower l opening, the, vertical flange bearing Vagainstthe outer side of the housing and the inwardly extending flan-ge extending to and passing around the sides and lower portion of said dial, mea-ns for securing said, ring member in pl-a.ce,a.nd .an electric'light located within the housing back of said upper opening and directly above 'the Y n open upper side of said ring member;
