In the illustre tion given, the pend-standards A' vere `rigidly connected together by the rearr connecting members Aannd the front connecting memberA. 1

The mounting-bars preferably are provided at their front-ends with lateral extensions n 19 which are secured to the front connecting member A4, by means of screws 19a.
The front and rear pairs of elbow levei's are, in the illustration given, of the same size and shape, and are adapted to carry the front and rear bed-sections by parallelV movements. v It is not essential that the. front elbow levers be of the same shape, as the rearelbow levers, however. In the illustration given, the elbow levers and bed-sections are so connected and mounted that when the structure is in" open condition, the frame of the front bed-section is elevated some distance above 'the frame of the rear bed-section. This will be noted particularly in Fig. 1; and it will be noted there that the upholstery springs F serve to support the cushion F 2 flush with the cushion on the mattress-section E. lVhen the structure is to be folded, the cushion F2 is first thrown upon the mattress-section E, and the folding action is then permissible. i
'The frame of the front bed-section is V.shown provided with end-inembers 2() with which the longarms of the frontv and rear elbow levers are pivotally connected. It is desirable to connect one pair of levers rigidly together, so that all of the levers will turn properly together and racking of the structure will bev avoided.` In the illustration given, this is accomplished by connecting the extremities of the long ends of the arms .of the front elbow levers by a bar 2l whose Vends are-rigidly secured to the extremities of said arms. The bar extends through the pivots 2, and thus the bed-,section is pivot-ally connected with the front elbow levers at these points.
The clips 5 and 6, which may be termed slides, are joined pivotally to the elbow-por-v tions of the bell-crank levers, as has been stated; and these clips are of a form to permit them to slide with relation to the endmembers 22 of the frame of the rear bed-section.y Thus, the rear bed-section is' which results `in the rear bed-section'being shifted rearwardly a short distance.
The upholstery springs F are shown as mounted on slats 23 with which' the frame Vof the rear bed-section is provided; and the `upholstered springs are shown as contained in an envelope, or covering, 24, which, however, is so applied not to interfere with the. movementof the slides and 6 connected with the end-members 22.
The counterbalance springs H and H are under tension when the structure is in bedform and alsol whenv the structure is in sofaform. To convert the structure from sofaform to bed-form, a moderate lifting and pulling action is exerted on the front bedsection. 'Ihe springs H aid in elevating the front bed-section; and, in the unfolding operation, the elbow levers carry the front bed-section to the extended position. The cushion F2 is then placed upon the springs F of the rear bed-section, and bedding may Ythen be applied.`
In converting from bed-form to sofa-form, the cushion F2 is first placed upon the mattress-section E of the front bed-section, and the folding operation is performed by lift- `ing the front bed-section and shoving` it rearwardly until it assumes a position above the rear bed-section. In the extended form of the structure, the long arms of the rear elbow levers may rest upon the long arms of thefront elbow levers.
The construction is strong'and durable, maybe operated with ease, and may be manufactured at moderate cost.
