My invention relates to cases for phonograph records and'has for its obJect `provide a case for holding diierent sizes of records whereby records of any of theV same sizes may be centered so as to allow the simultaneous removal of the records from the case by the insertion of a spindle through the centering holes `of all of said records jointly.

Another object lof the Vinvention resides in constructing the case so as to bring the centering holes of diilerent sizes .of records out ot register.

In carrying outthe olnects of my inven-` tion I construct the case open at one end for the endwise reception of records and arrange at the bottom of the case a rest on which rec- .ordsoil all sizes are supported, said rest being formed with a plurality of supporting surfaces adapted' `to support a plurality or different sizes oi' records, said surfaces having'two points contacting with all sizes of 'records and having portions inclining towards said pointer for directing the records ,towards the same.

With the foregoing and other obyects in view, which will appear in the following descriptioii,l the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of Construction hereinafter described and claimed. t

In the use of phonograph records on phonographs adapted automatically to play a number of' records sucessively,- considerable 'inconvenience is encountered in thread iiigthe records upon the supporting spindle by which the records are applied to. the phonograph. The bottom .15 ,of the case A provides a rest 211 on which all of the records placed within the case are supported. This rest is provided with three

The surface 25 (:oiiil"oi'i'11s in curvature to the circumference of the smaller sized record, such as indicated at l() and due to its inclination, causes all records of the smaller size to become centered so as to bring the centering holes 23 of all of such records into register. When a larger sized record is disposed within the case, the same takes the position illustrated in dotted lines at 3QVV in Fig. 2, resting upon the surfaces 26 and27. Due to the inclination of these surfaces all records of the saine size as that illustrated at 30 become centered'so as to bring the centering holes 3l thereof into registration. It will be noted thatthe surfaces 25, 2G and 2T are so arranged that the centering holes 31 and'23 of the two sizes of records for which theY device is constructed, do not register.

The usual type of phonograph for automaticall-y playing a number of records successively, requires the application of records of the ,saine size at each setting of the machine. In the event that a record of odd size should accidentally be threaded upon the spindle togetherY with records of the size for which the phonograph ris adjusted, the phonograph seascs to operate when the odd sized record is reached upon the actuation of safety stop mechanism embodied in thev machine, With my inventionv records only of one sizeare permitted tolbe vthreaded on j the spindle. Identical cases are used for records of both sizes, records onlyof the saine size, however,being placed in a'given case. If the case is to be used for small records, such records are placed within the open end 42, the saine coming to rest upon the surface 25 of rest 24. .As before explained, this brings all of the centering holes 23 of said records ,into register and also brings said'vholes into register with the slots 22 in the Vside walls ll and 12. of the case. Vhen so dis- .posed .tliephonograph spindle, not shown in `the drawings, may be thrust through all of the centering holes 23 of the records and the saidrecords lifted jointly from the case through the open end 42 thereof.' While being so removed, the spindle passes outwardly from the case through the slots 22 without obstruction. In.replacingvthe records, the same procedure is employed, the records being handled by the supporting spindle and jointly lowered into the case through the open end 42 thereof. After the records become seated upon the seat 24 the spindle is removel from the centering holes thereof and the. records are in position to be again used whenever desired. It will be noted that the same procedure takes place when the largersize of records to be played. The spindlcin a similar' manner, is inserted through the centering holes 3l, which in this instance are of slightly higher elevation than the holes 23, and the records are jointly removed from the case and applied to the phonograph in the usual manner.

The invention is highly advantageous in that a simple and effective device is provided whereby a single form and size of record case may be manufactured which will equally as well accommodate a larger or a smaller sizeof record and will serve to center records of like size so as to bring the centering holes' thereof into register and which at the same time will bring the centering holes of different sizes of records out of register to prevent the misapplication of the saine upon the phonograph. The case may be constructed of a size lsuch as to fit into any of the usual phonograph record cabinets.l The case may be labeled by placing a suitable label upon either of theend Walls- Y13 or; l4vandvthe-v same provided with the handle or other device for permitting of the ready removal of the case from the cabinet. They device canbe constructed at a V:nominal cost so that a suliicient number of cases may be available to permit of any suitable clasafication of records desirable.

Changes in the specific form of my involition, as herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from ythe spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new anddesire to protect by Letters I vPatent is:

A device for-holding phonograph records comprisingafraclrA arranged for the edgewise reception of records, a rest carried by said rack, said restV having intermediate the thereof a surface conforming in curvature with the circumference of a ksmaller recor'd, and having near its ends a surface conforming in curvature with a larger record, said intermediate surface serving to bring the centering holes of smaller records into register and said outer surface serving to bring the centering holes of'larger records into register, said surfaces being arranged so as to bring the holes of the records Vof different sizes out of register.

3. A case for phonograph records of ditferent sizes, said cese being open at one end for the endwise reception. of records7 supporting means at the other end of said'case for centering smaller records and a rest hzwing an inclined surface directed toward said supporting means operating to center larger records and to direct smaller records inserted into said case toward said supporting means. 4. A device for holding phonograph records comprising a rack arranged for the `endwise reception of records, e rest carried by said rack, said rest having tWo inclined intersecting surfaces and means operating in conjunctlon With sind surfaces for supporting said records and serving to bring the i centering holes of the saine size records into register and to bring the centering holes of different size records out of register.
