UNITED stares Par-ENT Affo-I-IlCIEZ- DAVID P. POLKKAND JOSEPH P. REMINGTON, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA;
DrsPENsING DEVICE Application filed January 14, 1928. SerialNo. 246,682;
The principal object of the present invention is to .provideV for dispensing benzine from stock pint cans for the purpose of lling and refilling pocket lighters by means of a dispensing device resembling in appearance va miniature automobile filling station and otherwise possessed of advertising value d yin its ability to attract attention and trade and to furnish courtesy service. y
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description at the end of which the invention will be claimed. 1
The invention Y will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings l5 forming part hereof and in which Figure 1 is a front View with parts broken away and parts in section Vof a dispensing.'V
device embodying features` of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view "of the lower part of ,2K0 the structure yshown in Fig. 1 with parts broken 'away and with parts in section, and Fig. 3 is a detail view.
Referring to the drawing 1 is a hollow shell generally circular in cross section and it includes a pedestal 2 having an .opening 3 through its base, Vand a column 4 mounted on the pedestal and a neck 5 mounted on the column. 6 is a container or stock pint can of benzine and it is circular in cross section and provided with an externally threaded nozzle 7 which isprovided with a filling and outlet opening 7. ri`he'can6 is adapted for insertion and removal through the lbase opening 3 andlinto andout of `the space provided in the column with the filling opening 7 confronting the base, in other words, Y
witlithe can` upsidedown. There are means near the foot of the column for detachablyV I holding `the container.` These means aire 4 shown to comprise springs 8. 9 is a AieXible tubularconnection movable through an opening 10 in the'walllof the shell Vbelow the l ,level of the outlet of the can when mounted in the column. The connection 9 is provided at the'end which is varranged inside l the casing with a coupling 11 adapted for.
connection and disconnection with 'the opening 7` of thel can when the can 1s outside of the columnf At its other end the con-V nection isk provided with a `normally closed hand opened valve 'and outlet 12. 13 is an illuminated 'clock' mounted on the neck=5k. 14 is ashow case arranged in the base of the pedestal and it may well beJusedfor the display of a .pocket l lighter. The )show case is illuminated as by an electric lamp 15 and is ventilated as .at 16`toy avoidlheating the d benzine. V17. is a restlon ythe, exteriorof; the casing for 'the free end of the flexible, connection A 1 The device attracts attentionfor; the rea- 'v sons indicated and it affords an opportunity for'the display of advertising -matter of such a nature that the rclock can be used to suggest that it is'ltime ltorefill"pocket lighters and the show -case Vsuggests thek connection of the ydevice with pocket lighters. iTo fillr a `pocket lighterfthe .flexibler connection is detached from the rest 17. and vapplied yto, tlie1 lighter'inposition to fill thesame. by gravv,
ity. It is .an advantage that stock v'pintcans of benzine can be used for several reasons, of which one is'thatf insurance rules permit of the storage and use of benzine in that quantity and in such containers. f Y
In `some cases4 the column and base lmay i y be connected bya joint, forexample, ahinge 17y may beA provided so thatrthe baseimay remain atirest and thecolumn'beswung in respect to it forthe purpose ofinserting `and removing the can.` Thek term benzine includes alcohol orany inflammable fluid.
It will be vobvious totho'se skilled inthe art to which the inventionrelate's that modifications may bemade in details of construcf tion andiarrangeme'nt andmatters of mere form without departing from the'spiritfof the invention which is not limited to such matters or otherwise `than vthe prior art and the appended claims'may require;
We claim: l `l 1 l. A. *dispensingy device comprising a holf'.y
low Vshell including *aL pedestal having an opening throughjitsv base and a columnV mounted on the* pedestal, acontainer provided with aiillingopening andadapted for e insertion and removal through the opening in the base into Vand. outcf the space provided in the column with'the filling opening confronting the base, means near the Vfoot of the column for detachably holding the container, a flexible tubular connection movable through an opening provided in the Wall of the shell below the level of the outlet of the container When mounted in the column, said flexible connection provided at the end inside thev casing with a coupling adapted for connection and disconnection with the opening of the receptacle When the latter is koutside of the column and at its other end Withv a normally closed hand opened valve and outlet, and a rest on the outside of the casing for the free end of the flexible connection. I
2. A dispensingdevice comprising a hollow shell including'appedestal having an opening through` its' base and a column mounted on thepedestal and generally circular in rcross section and a neclr mounted on the column, a container provided with a iilling opening and adapted for insertion and removal into andout of the space provided inthe column through the opening in the base, means for detachably holding the container in the column in inverted position, a flexible connection movable through an openingA provided in the'wall of Athe shell and located beloW'the level of the outlet of the container, said connection provided at one end'inside the casing With a coupling and at the other end outside the casing with a normallyclos'ed hand openedy valve and outlet, and a rest for f the tree end of the exible connection.
3'. A dispensing device comprising ahollovv shell including a pedestal having an Vopening through itsl base and a column mounted on the pedestal and generally circularin cross section and a neck mounted on the column, a container circular in cross section and provided With a illing'opening and adapted for insertion and removal into and outrof the space provided in the column n through the opening in the base,means for detachably vholding the container in the column yin inverted position, a flexible connection movable through an opening provided in the Wall of the shell and locatedk below the level of the outlet ofthe container, said connection provided f atone' end inside the casing With a coupling and at the other end outside the casing With a normally closed hand opened valve and outlet, and a rest for the reeend of the flexible connection.
