Patented Nov. 12, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MEASURING VALVE Original application fled October 28, 1980, Serial No. 144,887. Divided and this application filed November as, 1927.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in dispensing devices, and particularly to devices for dispensing beverages.
The subject-matter of the present application is a division from my pendin application filed October 28, 1926, Seria Number One object of the invention is to provide a measurin valve, operable into the beverage of a tan to receive a char e of beverage sufiicient to fill a cup, and to he moved outwardly therefrom to discharge such charge into a cup.
Another object is to provide ame'asurin valve of this character which is constructe in a manner to be manipulated to cause the bevera e to flow from the tank into the valve, and w ereby to prevent delivery of any amount in excess of the proper charge to fill the cup.
Another object is to rovide a valve of this character which will e ectively prevent leakage of the beverage from the tank, when the valve is in char e discharging position.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a sectional view showing a portion of a liquid dispensing tank, and the meas uring valve thereof, said valve being in charge receiving position.
Figure 2 is a similar sectional view showing the valve in charge discharging position.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a portion of a beverage dispensing tank, and screwed into the lower portion of a side of the tank is 'a cylindrical valve casing 11, said casing projecting into the tank for a short distance, and
having its lower side contacting with the bottom of the tank. Removably secured on the outer end of the valve casing is a cap 12,
having a central openin 12 in its outer end 60 for a purpose which w presently appear;
A further ob ect is to provide a valve of Serial No. 286,282.
In the lower side of said cap there is formed an outlet opening 13, dischar ing into a spout 14. Slidable in the valve casing 11 is the hollow measuring valve 15, which has a peripheral flange 16, on its inner end, within the tank, to ear against the inner end of the valve casing to effect the positive closing thereof, for the purpose of preventing leakage of beverage from the tankinto the space between the valve and casing, should such valve and casing become worn. The outer end of the valve is provided with a similar flange 17, which is screwed into the valve end, and is (provided with a stem 18, extending outwar 1y through the before-mentioned opening 12, said stem being provided with a head 19, and a coil spring enga ed on the stem between the head and the sai cap. The spring, indicated at 20, serves to hold the valve in withdrawn position, so that the inner flange 16 is seated against the inner end of the valve casing. The valve is provided with openings 21, adjacent its inner end which pass into the beverage, when the valve is moved into the tank, whereby to permit a charge to flow into the valve, while similar openings 22 are formed in the outer portion of the valve for discharging the contents of the valve through the discharge spout 14, when said valve is forced outwardly by the 8 spring 20.
Thus leakage is effectively prevented when the valve is moved: inwardly to receive a charge from the tank, and also prevents leakage when the valve is urged outwardly to discharge its charge. This effectively prevents loss of beverage from the tank, in the event that the valve or the casing becomes worn.
What is claimed is:
A liquid dispensing container having a valve casing projecting therefrom, a measuring valve slidable in said casing and having an end adapted to be projected into the con tainer, said valve having openings in its sides adjacent each end, and circumferential I beveled flanges on the opposite ends of the valve, one of said flanges normally engaging in closing relation to the inner end of the casing with the adg'lacent openings within the casing, the other ange being normally out of engagement with the other end of the easing wit the adjacent opemngs di beyond said casing'end, and-means or yieldably holding the valve in such position.
