Description

W. U. IBOHM. TICKET-HOLDER. No.176,272. Patented April 18, 1876.
N- PEIERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIGE.
WILLIAM U. BOHM, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TICKET-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,272, dated April 18, 1876; application filed a September 29, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM U. BoHM, of
v the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improved Ticket- Holder for Passengers on Railway-Cars, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters marked thereon.
This invention relates to an improved deice for holding tickets on passenger-cars; and it consists in forming, out of a single strip of metal, a holderl provided with a springback and a stop, so that only one ticket can be presented at a time.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my-invention I will proceed to fully describe it.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of the strip of metal of which the holder is composed; Fig. 2, an end View of the holder; Fig. 3, a back view.
A represents a fiat strip of metal, in which is cut an oval opening, b, to enable the ticket, when placed in the holder, to be pushedfor; ward by the finger. The plate is cut away on both sides from the center to one'end, and lips or projections 0 0 are left at the ends of the plate, to provide a stop for the tickets and a guard for the finger when the holder is formed. The holder is formed by bending the reduced portion of the plate over the main part, and turning up the edges d d of the body, which incloses the reduced part and forms a movable spring or clamp, 0, against the back of the ticket, which holds them in place The Up or projection c is attached to the body or main portion of the holder, and is bent inward at right angles, which forms a stop, so that only one ticket can he pushed out or forward at a time. The point or lip c is.on the end of the spring, and is bent downward, which serves as a guide or guard for one finger in pushing the ticket forward. In order to place a ticket in the holder it is only necessary to push out the spring or back 6. By this means an effective and handy ticket-holder is formed at small cost, and which occupies but little room in the pocket of the passenger. It is easily made of one piece of metal, and may be stamped out with a die.
When coupons are used the Whole ticket need not be withdrawn from the holder; but only one coupon is presented for the conductor to clip or cut off.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A ticket-holder formed from a single strip of metal and having the springs, opening I),
and stop 0,. substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
