The present invention relates to a hat and has for its prime object to provide a structure which is light and allows plenty of circulation of air so that the head may be maintained cool.

A further important object of the invention resides in the provision of a hat of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and dural ble, thoroughly efiicient and reliable in use, compact and convenient, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

WVith the above and numerous other objects inview as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combina tion and arrangement of parts as will be here inafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a continuous band preferably of light metal and somewhat oval in formation to fit the shape of the head and, of course, should be flexible so as to fit the head comfortably and has a leather or other suitable covering 6.

A plurality of tabs 7 rise from the upper edge of the band 5 and have obtusely disposed ears 8 at their upper terminals secured to a substantially oval shaped frusto-conical strip member 9 which is secured inside of a cone shaped hood 10 of suitable light material.

An elastic strip 11 is fastened to the band 5 for. extending transversely across the top of the head to hold the hair in place which would otherwise tend to becomemussed up through the circulation of. airpermitted by this hat. Obviously the hat will successfullykeep off Serial No. 387,106.

cured directly to the substantially smooth upper surface of the endless oval shaped strip 9 so that, especially when the hood is made of a light material, sagging of the hood is prevented.

It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.

The present embodiment ofthe invention has been disclosed in considerable detail mere- 1y for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.

It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

In a hat, an oval shaped metallic band adapted to encircle the head and having upwardly projecting tabs extending from the upper edge thereof and formed with inwardly directed terminal portions, an endless oval shaped strip secured to the upper surface of said inwardly directedportion and having a substantially smooth upper surface, and a hood mounted on the substantially smooth upper surface and said endless strip and secured directly thereto, andan elastic member secured at the ends thereof to said metallic band and adapted to extend transversely of the metallic band.
