Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EoALD ARENTZ, 0E wEsT PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [75,898, dated April 11, 1876; application filed September 28, 1875.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, RoALD ARENTZ, of West Philadelphia, in the county of Phila dclphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Knives; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact de'- scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of specification.
My invention relates to an improved pocketknii'e; and it consists in forming upon the end of the blade a small point that is adapted for cleaning the nails and opening letters, and making, through the handle under the free end of the blade, a hole sufficiently large to receive the end of a cigar, so that by pressing Vdown upon the blade the end will be cut ofi,
as will be more fully described hereafter.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
a represents the handle, and b the blade, of the knife, the two being of such a size as to adapt the knife to being carried in the vest pocket. Upon the point of the blade, which is made much broader at its free than its pivoted end, is formed the small point or projection c, for cleaning the nails and opening letters. Through the outer end of the handle is formed a hole, d, suficiently large to receive the end of a cigar. V
The blade is held when closed in an inclined position, so that its cutting-edge comes just over this hole. By pressing upon. the outer edge of the blade, its cutting-edge sweeps over the hole, and cuts off the end of the cigar or other article that may have been inserted therein. After the blade has been pressed inward, as soon as it is released the springback throws it outward again.
Secured to the large end of the handle is a watch-key, i, for winding the watch.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- In a pocket-knife, the combination of the handle c, having the hole d, blade b, having the point c, and spring-back, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have .hereunto set my hand this 6th day of July, 1875.
ROALD ARENTZ.
