GEORGE W. BI LLINGS, OF WELLINGTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT lhl FLAT-IRON POLISHERS AND KNlFE-SHARPENERS.
, Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 175,650, dated April 4, 1876; application filed I January 27, 1876. I
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. BILLINGS, of Wellington, in the county of Lorain and bit-ate of Ohio, have invented a new Flat-Iron Polisher and Knife-Sharpener, of which the following is a specification My invention consists of a board covered with emery-paper, the ends of which are secured in grooves out across the face of the board near the ends by means of wedges, whereby the several sheets are held firmly and smoothly down onto the board, and which may be readily removed for the replacement of new sheets when the others are worn. The paper is laid on in thicknesses of five or six sheets, so that the upper sheet may be torn off when worn to uncover the next one.
This device has. been designed for supplyin g a ready and convenient polishing-surface for flat-irons while in use for ironing. It is also adapted to sharpening and polishing table-knives and the like.
The accompanying drawing is an illustration of my invention.
A represents a board of suitable size and thickness, in which I out two grooves, B B. 0 represents sheets of emery-paper, which are secured to the said board by inserting the ends in the said grooves, and retaining them therein by forcing in, by the side of ends of the paper, wedge-shaped strips D D. W hen the emerypaper becomes worn the said wedges may be Withdrawn and new sheets supplied. This device may lie on the ironing-table orin some convenient place, and will be found to be perfectly adapted to the uses for which it is designed.
Having described my invention, I claim- The herein-described flat-iron polisher, consisting of board A, having the grooves 13 B, the sheets of emery-paper O, and the wedges DD, all combined and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
GEORGE W. BILLINGS.
