SLICING- MACHINE COM- PANY, OF LA'PORTE, INDIANA,'A CORPORATION OF INDIANA SLICE RECEIVER Application filed August 16, 1926. Serial No 129,325.
This invention relates to a device for receiving slices of meat or other material as they are formed by a slicingmachine, and has for its object the provision of such a debe of. improved construction and operation, which shall be simple and economical to manufacture and in which the slices will be arranged in an-orderly stack.
The invention is exemplified in the combination and arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawings and described A in the following specification, and it is more particularly pointed out in the appended 4 i v thereof adjacent the reciprocating table 11.
claims.
In the drawings- 7 slicing machine with one embodiment of the present invention applied thereto;
,Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line a 20 Fig. 1, but with the reciprocating table moved to a different POSI'ClOIlfIOIIl that shown in c Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the slice deflector substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a front elevation of a slicing machine with a portion of the slice receiver broken away. j The numeral 10 designates the base or .frame of a slicing machine having a reciprotable 11 ,mounted on guides12 and having arotary slicing knife 13. A bracket 141 is secured to the front of the frame 10 and is provided with an arm 15 having a sleeve .16 for receiving an upright spindle or post 3 17. The post. 17 is secured in a socket 18 formed on a plate 19. The edge of the plate 19 adjacent the front of the reciprocating tahle 11 and is curved in an are about the axis I of the post 17 as a center so that the plate is axis of the post 17 with the curved edge adjacent the front edge of the reciPrOOating .table 11. j A curved flange 20 extendsupwardly about the curved edge of the plate 19. and is provided with con- 45 tinuations 21 along the straightsides of the I plate. The top of the plate 19 is corrugated to provide ridges 22 extending parallel with the sides 21. A bracket 23 is secured to the end of the reciprocating table 11 and is pro- 9 vided with a connecting rod 24; pivoted at 25 plate 7 Fig. l is a top plan view of a portion of ,to the bracket 23 and at 26 to the lower face 7 of the plate 19. 7 As the table 11 reciprocates the plate 19 is caused to oscillate simultaneously therewith-by means of the rod 24:. A movable support 27 rests on theupper face of the plate 19-and isarranged toslide inthe direction of the ridges 22 The supporting 27 is in'the shape of a portion of a conical surface, being both curved and inclined. It is held in upright position by a bracket 28 which rests upon the upper, face of the plate 19. The plate 27 may be provided with points or teeth29projecting from the face A slice support 30 is carried on an arm 31 secured to the frame 10 and is disposed adja'cent the cutting edge of the knife 13 to support the meat adjacent the point where the jection 32 extends beneath the projecting por-.
tionof the meat which is cut off to form a slice. a
A slice deflector 33 is provided with supporting arms 34 adjustably mounted on a post 35 which is carried by an arm 36 supported on the bracket 14. The deflector 33 is provided with substantially horizontally extending ribs on its front face, the top portion of the deflector being arranged 'at a greater inclination to the cutting planeof the slicing knife than is the lower portion, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3, so that the top of the deflector overhangs the bottom portion. The edge of the deflector adjacent the knife is curved to conform to the curvature of the knife and is flattened out, as indicated in Fig. 4, to li e adjacent the bevel edge of the knife close to the periphery thereof. The bottom of the deflector is-curved to conform to the curvature of theflange ,20 and lies. just above the top of the flange, the forward edge of the deflector' being substantially flush with the inner face of the flange 20. The angle of inclination of the deflector 33 is substantially the same as that of the supporting plate 27 so that the main portion ofthe deflector the flange 20. The flange 2O thusserves to hold the stack as it is formed against centrifugal movement by engagement with the lower edge of the stack.
The second slice is laid in a similar way against the slice already cut so that as the operation progresses the slices are successively laid in a stack upon the convex face of the plate'27. As the stack is formed the plate 27 will he slid away from the reciprocating table 11 by the pressure of the meat on the table and by the act-ion of the slice deflector 33. The slices are thus laid in orderly position against the supporting plate 27 and in position relative to each other for wrapping and sale. 7
Because of the location of the surface of the receiver 19 below the surface of the reciprocating table, the slices, when out, fall free of any relatively moving parts and the slices are not therefore disarranged upon the return movement of the receiver through contact of any loose straggling ends on the slices with the meat or the table or with relatively stationary parts of the machine, as the deflector or knife.
It is to be noted, however, that it is not necessary that the entire surface of' the receiver be positioned below the top surface of the meat table as it is only necessary that the portion of the surface of the slice receiver adjacentthe table upon which the slices are deposited should be positioned below the meat table.
