The inner face of the abutment member 14 is also formed to provide an oblique meeting face 20 corre sponding to the oblique side 19 of the wedge, and against which the latter thrusts when actuated. It is also of advantage to laterally chamfer the oblique or inclined margin 19 of said Wedge in a downward and outward direction from its top face and to correspondingly chamfer the oblique meeting face 20 of the abutment member 14, such c0nstruction tending to maintain the wedge flat on a surface of-the stretcher or bar 11 when actuating the same in service. In orderto retain the wedge in non-separable and yet Which it is associated, I provide in the upper face of the wedge body a countersunk cavity which provides keeper shoulders 21 operative in the manner subsequently explained.
The means for locking the wedge 18 in any desired operative position to which it has V thereunder, with an opening or slot 25 through which said gripping member or stud 24 extends, whereby the free extremity of the latter may be caused-to bear bitingly on the upper surface of said wedge 18 and within the boundaries of the keeper shoulders 21 thereof. Said gripping member or'stud 24 may be provided, adjacent its free end, with a laterally projecting tongue or lug 26, which,
when the parts are assembled together, will extend under the marginal portion of the opening or slot 25 to thereby prevent accidentel upward displacement of the gripper piece 22 and its gripping member or stud 24. Extending upwardly through the assembled stretcher or bar 11 and attached clip-block 12 is a connecting bolt- 27, the squared head of which is preferably countersunk somewhat in the body of the stretcher or bar to hold the same againstturning. The rear end of said gripper piece 22 is bifurcated,- as at 28, to permit the free threaded end of said bolt 27 to pass upwardly therethrough.
Arranged on said threaded end of said bolt 27 is a wing-nut 29 which may be tightened down on the gripper piece 22. If desired a cross-pin 30'may be passedthrough the free end portion of the bolt 27 above the wing-nut 29 to limit the loosening movement thereof, so that while it maybe manipulated to loosen or tighten the. gripper piece and its gripping member or stud 24 relative to the wedge 18, yet the parts cannot become accidentally disassembled or lost. i Since the gripping memher or stud 24 enters the cavity of the wedge 18, bounded by the keepershoulders 21, and is maintainedflin. such position even when the gripper piece is loosened, it follows that the wedge under the latter condition is free to move and yet cannot be accidentally lost since the shoulders. 21 will stop the wedge atsome point before it can escape the opening or passage of the clip-block 12.
Furthermore, the arrangement of the wedge,thus retained in operative assembled relation to the clamping devices issuch that, whenthe latterare not in use, the wedges may be turned or folded into the opening or passage 13, and then. locked in such arrangement,"so"that the stretchers 'or bars may becompactly bundled together for storage or for carriage from place toplace.
When operativelyassembling the clamping devices in encircling and holding relation to angularly disposed forniwalls 10,.the series of stretchers or bars 11 are arranged at right angles one toqthe other against the outer faces of the latter, with the, freeend ofone stretcher. or bar engaged through the V .90 opening or'passage 13 of the clip'block 12 of the next adjoining stretcher orbar,3and so as to lie intermediate the abutting form wall and the wedge 18 of the latter, stretcher or bar, the wedges being initiallyv withdrawn to loosened relation. Whenthe. parts are thus assembled relative to the form to be clamped thereby, holding'pins,"preferably in the form of split cotter pins 31, are inserted through a selected topening or perforation 32 of a longitudinal row thereof provided in the free ends of the stretchers or bars 11, whereby said pins are located at the outer sides ofadjacent interengaged stretchers or' bars to thereby prevent disassembling of the thus interconnected clamping devices.
' When the parts are thus disposed, the clamping devices are ready to be finally tightened up and locked in closev gripping relation to the form walls. The latter operation is. attained'by driving home the, wedges, 18, thus taking. up all slack in the form encircling clamping devices, and thereby securing a snug andtight gripping and embracing relation of the latter to the form. ;After the wedges 18 are thus driven home to operative tightening position, .the previously loosened wing-nuts 29 are screwed down on the bolts 27, thus pressingdown on the gripper pieces 22, as fulcrumed on'their shoulders 23, and thereby thrusting downwardly the gripping members 24 intobiting and holding engagement with the wedges, all whereby said adjusted and tightened wedges are firmly gripped andheld against back-slipping or displacement from their operative thrusting relat-ionto the associated stretcher or 11, and thus securely retaining the clamping devices against accidental displacement from operative form clamping positions.

these purposes, the outer end of the clip block is provided with a'flcavity 33 bounded at its upper side by a chamfered or chisel edged wall 34, and through this end 'ofthe clip-block GX- tend transverse openings35. The openings 35 serve to recelve and hold a cotter pin, 31, when the same is notin use, thus assurlng its presence when needed (as shown in'Figs. 3

From theabove descriptionit willbe obvious that the wedges 18 may be adjusted to a nice degree of tightness, and that when so adjusted the gripping members may be caused to quickly engage and securely hold the same in the positions to, which theyjhave been adjustably tightened. r Referring now to Figs.v 63and 7 I have shownther'ein a somewhat modified arrangement and construction of wedge locking. means, which embodies, however, the pun-- ciples of this invention. In this construction I'omit' the separate rigidly secu'ring' rivets 16 from'the outer endof the clip block- 12, and also omit the separable gripper'piece; 22, substituting for the'latter a set-screw 36 mounted in the wall of the clip block 12 so as to project downwardly into the under lying opening or passage 13 into engagement with the wedge 18. A jamb nut 37 may be utilized to' lock the set-screw in desired position, As shown in Figs, 6 .and 7 a'bolt 38 is extended through'the outer end of the clip block and through theunderlying stretcher or bar 11, its threaded end being supplied with a wing-nut 39. When the wedge-18 has been adjusted to tightened position the wingnut 39 is manipulated'to draw'down the clipblock thus carrying the set-screw 36into bitingand holding relation to-the wedge. It
will also be understood, that the clip block 12 may be rigidly secured to the stretcher or bar "11, and the set-screw alone manipulated to tightened or loosenedposition, to lock or free z'the wedge 18 as desired.
I amaware that changes, other than those above mentioned, may be'made in the abovedescribed clamping devices, as well'as in the details of the construction of the same, without departing from the scope of this invention as described in the foregoing specifica-' tion, and as defined in the appended claims.
