Description

C. BEER.
TOY PoP-GUN. No.175,409. Patnzea March 2a, 187e.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEL CARL BEER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY POP-GUNS.
Specification` formingppalt of Letters Patent No. 175,409, dated March 28, 1876 ;l application filed February 16, 1876.
My invention consists in the peculiar construction of a pop-gun and its plunger-handle, which is a hollow cylinder, having-'a whistle at the end, which is blown by the action ot' the piston on the end of the plunger each time the latter is moved.
Figure l is a gun ready for tiring. Fig. 2 is a vertical seotion of the same after tiring.
In the drawing, Arepresents the barrel of the pop-gun, ofwhich B is the plun ger-rod, oarryin g a piston, a, ttin g the bore ofthe barrel, and at the other end a larger pistn, b, fitting the bore of a hollow handle, C, in the end ot which there is a tin whistle, c. At the other end ot' the handle there is a diaphragm, d, to prevent the piston b from being drawn out. The diaperspective view of the pop-- phragm is also perforated with holes e for the free admission and emission of air.- A cork, I), fastened by a cord, f, to the end ofthe barrel, is placed forcibly in the muzzle after the plunger is drawn back; then, as the latter is pushed in, the handle slides forward on its piston, expelling the air through the whistle, making a musical sound, followed by the expulsion of the cork with a sharp detonation. Upon retracting the plunger the whistle is again blown.
What I claim as my invention is- The combination ot' the hollow handle C, having the whistle c, with the plunger B of a pop-gun, provided with the piston b, tted t0 the bore of said handle, substantially as described.
