the bottle; The shoulder 4 extends at a This invention relates to a bottle, more particularly to a bottle adapted to contain milk, cream, or the like, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as here- A inafter set forth, a bottle of suchclass which is so constructed that it may be effectively.
closed by the usual type of pasteboard closure cap with the latter disposed in a manner to provide for the drainage therefrom of; rain, snow, or the like, to which milk bottles cess may be had to an edge portion of the closure cap therefor to remove the latter, thereby eliminating the necessity of either using an instrument to remove the cap, or of forming the cap with a removal tab.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more particularly described, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but.it is to be understood that such drawings and description are to be taken as illustrative and that the invention is intended to be limited only by the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
t Figure 1 is a fragmentary, longitudinal section of a bottle constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates a bottle of the milk bottle slight upward'inclination from both sides of shoulder 4, which is indicated at 5, disposed diametrically opposite to the notch 3. Fo'rmed in the outer-face of the side wall of the bottle is a concavity 6, the side mar- 'gi'nal portions of which extend beyond the sidewalls of thenotch 3, The concavity6 extends through'theupper' edge of the bottle and is disposedslightly inwardly of the vertical plane of the outer periphery of the shoulder 4:. iThe wall, of the concavity ex- I tends at a slight downward and outward in clination and terminates at its lower extre m ity a substantial distance below the bottom i The bottle is adapted to be closed by a circular cap-7 which is wedged through the open end ofthe bottle'into seated position'on the shoulders. .With the cap'fiinposition, one
edge portion thereof is extended slightly into ward the notch 3 whereby any moisture which may be deposited on the cap, as by rain or melting snow, will be drained from the cap through the notch 3, thereby removing the likelihood of such moisture soaking into the cap to damage the same.
When'it is desired to remove the cap, it is merely necessary to move a thumb or finger upwardly along the wall of the concavity 6 whereby the exposed edge portion of the cap will be engaged by the thumb or finger to remove the cap from its seat. A
It is thought that the many advantages of a bottle in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred embodiment is as illustratedand described, yet it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be made, so long as such changes fall within the scope of the invention as de r fined in the appended claims.
What I claim is: I 1. A bottle having its side wall formed with a circumferentially extending interior shoulder and further formed in its upper edge with notch having its bottom wall flush with the upper face of the shoulder, said shoulder extending at an upward inclination from both sides of said notch and having its uppermost portion disposed diametrically opposite to said notch,
2. A bottle having its side wall formed with a ciroumferentially extending interior shoulder and further formed in its upper edgewithanotch having its bottom wallflush with the upper face of the shoulder, said side wall being further formed "in" its outer face with a concavity having its side marginal portion extending beyond the side walls of the notch, said shoulderextending at an upward inclination from both sides of said notch and havingits uppermost portion disposed diametrically opposite to said notch. 7 I
3. A bottle having its side walllformed with a circumferentiallyextending interior shoulder and further formed in itsupper edge with a notch having its bottom. wall flushwith the upper face of the shoulder, said side wall. being further formed, in its outer face with a-concavity having its .side
marginal portion extending, beyond'the side walls of thenotch, the wall of the concavity extending across the verticaliplane of the outer peripheral portion of the shoulder at a downward and outward inclination, said shoulder extending. at an upward inclination from both sides of said notch and having its uppermost portion 1 disposed diametrically opposite to said notch. a
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.v V I V 1 SANFORD J. BLACKWELL.
