GARMENT HANGER Filed Dec. 10, 1926 IN V EN TOR.
Patented Apr. 8, 1930 PA ENT 1 OFFICE JACOB STUART SCHARF, OF NEW YORK, N.
GARMENT HANGER Application filed December 10, 1926. Serial No. 154,002.
My invention relates to improvements in coat hangers, and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
A particular object ofthis invention is to provide a combined coat hanger and shoe horn. I
A further object of this invention'is to provide an improved shoe horn.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described that is simple and durable in construction, light in weight, and which can be manufactured cheaply.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application.
Fig. 1, is a front view of the device.
Fig. 2, is aside view of same.
Fig. 3, is a cross section on line 33 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out my invention, provide a shoulder portion 1, which has a downward curve. At the center of the shoulder portion I provide a metallic vertical member 2.
The vertical member 2 is shaped to the identical form of a shoe horn. This member is bent laterally at 3 forming a reverse curve 4, and terminating at 5. The vertical member 2 is attached to the shoulder portion 1, by means of rivets, nails or other means. In the case shown there are two rivets 6 and 7 flattened on the other side of the shoulder portion.
If desired two projections may be stamped out from the vertical member 2, and these pro jections may be used as nails or connecting means to the shoulder portion 1.
The reverse curve 4 as indicated and being at the side of the shoulder portion gives sufficient room for a coat to hang properly and prevents the garment from becoming wrinkled and shapeless.
An opening 8 is provided in the vertical member 2 so it can be supported on a nail or hook.
The reverse curve 4 as noted also improves the device as a shoehorn, since it keeps the rivets away from the hosiery and gives ample room for the fingers. When the device is used as a shoe horn, the shoulder portion 1,
may be used as a handle, which makes the device easier for handling, and affords a good grip for operating the shoe horn in case the shoe leather is stiff.
a What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a garment hanger, comprising, a shoulder portion and a vertical supporting member attached thereto, said vertical member being formed of a substantially narrow plate having its up.-
per portion transversely curved to a size sufiicient to embrace the heel of a foot and oper ate as a shoe horn, said shoulder portion being adapted to function as a handle when the device is used as a shoe horn. v 2. In a deviceof the class described, a garment hanger, comprising, a shoulder portion and a vertical supporting member attached thereto, said vertical member being formed of a substantially narrow plate having its up: per portion'transversely curved to a size sufficient to embrace the heel of a foot and operate as a shoe horn, said vertical member having means for supporting same on a hook, said shoulder portion being adapted to function as a handle when the device is used as a shoe horn.
3. In a device of the class described, a garment hanger, comprising, a shoulder portion and a vertical supporting member attached..
thereto, and offset from the center thereof, said vertical member being formed of a sub-- stantially narrow plate having its upper portion transversely curved toa size suflicient to embrace the heel of a footand operate as a shoe horn, said shoulder portion being adapted to function as a handle when the device is used as a shoe horn.
' 4. In a device of the class described, a garment hanger, comprising, a shoulder portion and a vertical supporting member attached thereto, and offset from the center thereof, said vertical member being formed of a substantially narrow plate having its upper portion transversely curved to a size-suflicient to r embrace the heel of a foot and operate as a shoe horn, said vertical member having means for supporting same on a hook, said shoulder portion being adapted to function as a handle when the device is used as a shoe horn.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York this 13th day of November A. D. 1926. i
JACOB STUART SOHARF.
