PATENT OFFICE 'I NEWTON, IOWA, Assisnon rio 'Anroivrnrrcwasnnn COMPANY, or
NEWTON, IOWA, A CORPORATION OFVD-ELAVIABE. f
` wnINGnn finan non Application filed June 1,
This invention relates to wringer heads for washing machines, the same being fashioned in a manner to contain the driving vand reversing gearingV mechanism for the well known wringer.
One of the objects of the invention is in theprovision of a wringer head, fashioned in a-simple manner, to provide a compact arrangement of driving and reversing gear mechanism, as well as permitting ready access -to the gearing incase of breakage or any necessary replacement of parts.
"Another object is inthe provision of a wringer head'of simple design, the same be-l wringer head of simple design, wherein the driving, reversing and pinion gears and clutch member are arranged-in such manner that the various portions may bevreadily 'ask sembled'and readily replaced in case of breakc age or wear, without removal of the head or in any manner displacing any other portions of the wringer. T
A still furtherobject is in theprovision of a wringer head having-the` gear and clutch mechanism contained therein, fashioned in a manner with respect to the head, to permit rear assembly andy demountability.
Other objects will appear "inthe following specification, taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which-` Fig. l'is afront elevation 'of the wringer head, withthe cover removed; and
and clutch mechanism.
Referring to the drawings,-there is shown l the' wringer` head and contained gear and 59 clutch mechanism, although it is apparently wnsiirnc- MACHINES 192s. senin No. masso.
obvious that my device is adapted for use in connection with any type of wringer mechanisni, the same being used upon the power operated washing machines. It is thought that the art as respects power operated washing machines is so well known; as not to make necessary the showing of a'wringer mechanism in connection with the wringer head vand the moiintii'igv ofthe same upon a power` operated washing'machine. This application is directed entirely tothe wrin er head and it is obvious vthatit is adapted or use in connection with any of the welljknown types of wringer, as well as any type. of power operated washing machine wherein a wringer mechanismk is to be driven simultaneously therewith. p
The wringer head herein includesthe followingelements: A housing,A generally referred to as 10, has the cylindrical'portion 11, which slides over a VsimilarlyV shaped receiving portion upon a power operated washing machine, not shown. An abutment platev 12 maintains the wringer head'in proper relationship with that portion of the washing inachinetol which the wringer head is attached. A power operated shaft, not shown,
lis adapted to mate with thestub shaft 13,
which transmits power to the, various, gears later to be described, and finally tothe wringer, also not shown.` The housing 10 khas the brackets 14 integrally formed thereon, adapted to receive vany of the Well known types of wringer, the main portions of which include the rubber` roll members. An aperture-'15 in the housing 41() permits entry of theydrive shaft, not shown, of the wringer, not shown, and mating thereof with the horizontally Vdisposed shortshaft 16.l Y
Before describing in ldetail the various gear mechanisms contained in the wringer head, it might bestated that this head to which the wringer is attached, is adapted to i swing. about'theportion"y of thewashing ma- Fig. 2 isV a cross-sectional view 'showing -in detail the mannerof mounting the gear it is slidably mounted, as
Wringer rolls removable,` oppositely disposed.
bevel gears freely mounted in bearings in said housing and removable side, a horizontal shaft freely mounted in said gears and slidable therein, said shaft being adapted to olutoh with the drive shaft of the AWringer rolls, a clutch member slidably splined on said shaft, whereby said horizontal shaft and clutch member may be disengaged from said gears by the Withdrawal of the horizontal shaft from the gears, a drive shaft pivotallyV mounted in the housing proper, a pinion pinned on said drive shaft and engaging said l bevel gears, a clutch controlling shaft pivotal ly mounted in said housing, a manually operable handle, and releasable connecting means between the clutch Controlling shaft and handle.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
' JOHN NELSON.
