APPLICATOR FOR TOILET PREPARATIONS Filed April 5. 1928 lil/m Patented Apr. 1,` 1930 PATENTV OFFICE ROBERT H. VAN SANT,
OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS AIIEIILICATR` FOR TOILET PREPARATIONS Application led April 5, 1928. Serial No. 267,575.
This invention relates to applicators of the type used in applying toilet preparations and treating the skin; and it has for its principal object to facilitatethe treatment of shaven and close clipped skin to prevent ingrown hair and other unpleasant consequences of shaving and clipping.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which F ig. 1 is a central vertical section through a package including the applicator;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the applicator; and
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the iine 3*?) of Fig. 2.
The package includes a jar 10, a powder puff 11 and a cover 12. The jar is provided with two distinct constrictions at 13 and 14, and between them is a seat 15 with which the marginal portion of the puff 11 is engaged.
The puff is composed of an inner filler 16, a casing 17, and a strap 18.
The filler may be of cotton linters, or other suitable pad-forming material. The casing is made of two discs of terry cloth, Turkish toweling, or the like, with their edges turned inwardly and stitched together at'19. The strap is made of suitable braid, and its ends are stitched between the inturned edges of the casing.
The terry cloth or the like is characterized by a long nap composed of uncut loops of yarn, but such a nap can, of course, be created on other material which may be thus made suitable for the present purpose.
A powder puff having a nap formed of loops retains the powder when applied thereto, and therefore facilitates the application of the powder to the skin. In rubbing a shaven 0r close clipped skin with such a puit' the loops catch the individual hairs and deposit a small quantity of powder between the hair and the epidermis. of the hair to a normal position and the application of the powder thereto tends to prevent ingrowing hairs. It also stimulates a healthy circulation and assists nature in restoring the damage done to the skin in removing the natural protecting covering.
Both the pulling A puff made of terry cloth, or the like, is easily washed or otherwise cleansed, and thus kept ina clean sanitary condition.
In some instances it will be desirable to increase the stiffness of the applicator and this may be accomplished by inserting one or more discs of suitable material such as grenadine or Celluloid.
I claim as my invention- 1. An applicator for applying toilet powder to shaven or clipped skin, comprising a pair of superimposed peripherally connected layers of woven material having an exterior surface of uncut loops, stidening material between the layers of woven material, padding between the stiifening material and the layers of woven material, and a finger strap arching across one face ofthe device and having its ends inserted between and secured to the layers of woven material.
2. A powder pud provided with an eXterior'nap surface of uncut loops having the property of retaining toilet powder applied thereto and of applying the retained powder to the skin of a person when used in the ordinary manner of using a powder pud, the outer and free closed end portions of said uncut loops also having the property of catching about the free ends of short close cut hairs and pulling them in an outstanding p0- sition and at the same time depositing retained powder around the outstanding hairs and upon the skin of the person.
