IMPROVEMENT IN DEMIJOHNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,1 78, dated March 21, 1876; application filed To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID E. SHOURDS, of

In place of the usual wooden head of the barrel, I use a metal top, D, of a form substantially as shown in the drawing, this top:
being, by preference, of cast iron, galvanized, and having the neck h, and at its lower end a flange, e, adapted to the internal groove near the upper edge of the barrel, a perfectly'tight j0nt being effected between the flange and barrel by means of theupper hoop.

If desired, a suitable handle, (1, shown by dotted lines, may be cast on the top D.
The mouth f may be arranged for the reception of an ordinary cork or bung, into which may be screwed or otherwise fitted the tubular stem of a faucet, as described in the patent granted to me on the 7th day of December, 1875.
The above-descrihed demijohn is well adapted for containing limited quantities of maltliquor for family use, for it is comparatively light and is capable of withstanding the rough usage to which such vessels are subjected during transportation.
I claim as my invention- The within-described demijohn, composed partly of a wooden barrel and partly of a metal top and neck, as set forth.
