UNITED STATES HAROLD L. RACE, or rnALr'A, conoiannorv NET SUPPORT FOR CAMPERS COTS Application led August 5, 1929. Serial No. 383,48?.
This'invention relates to a device designed for use in connection with campers cots, and aims to provide novel means whereby mosquito netting or other covering may be supported in spaced relation with a cot, to protect the person using the cot against insects, or the elements.
An important object of the invention is to provide a collapsible frame which may be folded into a small and compact article for transportation, and one which may be readily and easily extended to its active position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a support of this character having means for securing the bows of the frame to the side rails of the cot, to the end that the bows are held securely in their curved positions.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a collapsible frame embodying eX- tension arms extending to the surface on which the cot supplied with the device, is supported, to the end that the lower portion of the cot is protected against insects entering at the bottom of the frame.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in View, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of the construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a frame constructed in -accordance with the invention, the covering used with the frame being shown in section.
Figure 2 is a plan view illustrating the frame connected to a cot.
Figure 3 is an end view of the frame connected to a cot.
Figure 4; is a fragmental perspective View illustrating the means for clamping the frame to the side rails of a cot.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the frame embodies end bows, each of which com- 59 prises sections 5 and 6 respectively, the upper ends ofthe sections being connected by means f of the bolts 7.
As clearly shown by Figure 3 ofthe drawing, the free ends of the sections 5 and 6 eX-V tend inwardly and are twisted to present iiat surfaces at the sides of the frame, which sur# v faces are formed with openings to receive the bolts 8 that Vconnect the clamping bars 9 to the free ends of the sections 5 and 6'so that the end bows may be rmly secured to the side rails ofa cot, the side rails being indicated by the reference letter A.
The reference character 10 designates a connecting bar that has its ends formed with openings to receive the bolts 7, whereby the end bows of Vthe frame may be secured in proper spaced relation with each other. V This bar 10 is constructed of pivotally connected sections connected by means of the bolt 11, so that the bar 10 may be folded intermediate its ends. I
Pivotally connected with the bows, are leg members 12 that ext-end downwardly, the lower ends thereof resting on the surface on which the cot is supported. Connecting the lower ends of the leg members, are bars 13 which are also formed of pivotally connected sections, connected by the bolts 14 so that these bars may be folded into small and compact articles for transportation. Y
rlhe covering, which is indicated by the reference character 15, may be either netting, canvas or other waterproof material, so that a person occupying the cot will be protected against insects, when netting is used, or protected against the elements, when a waterproof material is used.
Owing to the construction of the frame, it will be obvious that the frame may be readily and easily unfolded or extended and may be readily secured to the side rails of a cot to support a suitable covering to protect a person occupying the cot. f
I claim:
1. A frame of the class described, em-
bodying end bows, clamping means at the ends of the bows for clamping the bows to a supporting structure, leg members pivotally connected with the bows, a bar for connecting the bows at the tops of the bows, bars for coni necting. the 1eg members, and a cover'for the i Y frame.
2. A frame of the class described, embodying end bows, each of the bows comprising curved pivotaily connected sections, a bar connecting the bows at the top thereof, means for securing the bows to a supporting structure, leg members connected with the bows, bars for connecting the leg members, and a covering fitted over the frame.
3. Aframe of the class described, emb ody' Y f ing end bows, each ofthe bows having inwardly extended ends, clamping'members'on the inwardly extended ends and adapted to. clamp the side rails of a cot', a bar 'connecting the-bows, leg members. extending from the bows, bars for connecting the leg members,
and alcover for the frame.
4. A protecting frame for c'ots, comprising :euri/fed bows, each of the bows' embodyingV pivotally connected sections, abar connect,- ing the bows, said bar comprising pivotally' connected sections, leg members pivotally connected with the bows, sectional bars connecting the leg members, means for clamping the frame to a supporting structure, and` a cover for the frame.
Intestimony tbatI claim` the foregoing as my own,-I have hereto aiiixed my signature.
yHAROLD L. RACE.
