A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA GAS RANGE Application tiled September- 22, 1928. Serial No. 807,5. 4.
Our invention relates to a new and useful.
improvement in gas ranges or' other ranges uslng fluid fuel.
It is the obgect of our invention to provide a novel combination of broiling oven and set of burners may be employed for both and so that the heat normally "wasted in a broiler oven is utilized for the griddle plate, and so as, moreover, to provide a better heat reflecting surface on the top of the broiling oven, thereby to increase the efliciency of the latter by more evenly distributing theheat therein. With the above ends in view 'we provide a broiling oven with a range, the top wall of which instead of being of the usual construction, is in the form of a removable, relatively thick metallic griddle plate. v 1 v For the purpose of illustratingour invention we have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is atipres- 'ent preferred by us, sincethe same has been atisfactory and found in practice to give reliable results, although it: is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which our invention consists can be various- 'ly arranged and organized and that our invention isnot limited to the precise arrangement and organizationof theinstr umentaln ties as herein shown and described. Y
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a four burner range embodying our invention. I I
Figure2 represents a section on' line 2-K-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 represents a erspective view of a six burner range embo yingour invention. Fi ure 4 represents a section on line 4-4 of Flgure 3. The gas range embodying our invention is designated generally by the numeral 5 and is provided with four burners 6 in the usual manner supplied by a common supply line 7.
The broiling oven-is designated generally by the numeral 8 and consists of a chamber extending substantially across the depth of therange immediately below the upper surface thereof and surrounded by the walls 9 and 10 and a bottom. 11.
Suitable guide supports 12 a. provided griddle plate in such a manner that a singlewardly.
along the walls 9 and 10 at various heights for the purpose of supporting the shelf 13 at the various levels. A
From the gas supply line 7 a pair of burner pipes '14- and 15 are extended longitudinally within the chamber 8 and spaced a suitable distance from each other; i
=The top of the chamber 8 is formed of a relatively thick metallic plate 16, preferably of aluminum, which is supported in the top 17 of the gauge by the recessed shoulders or flanges 18, as indicated particularly in Figure 2. The to of the plate16 isthen flush with the top 0 the range.
p The griddle plate 16'may be provided with a pair ofhandles 19, by means of which it may be readily removed for the purposes of cleaning or otherwise. A relatively small drip channel 20 is provided near. the border of the griddle plate 16 for the purpose of collecting any drainings or drippings from the griddle .plate. i
The broiling pan 21 is supported upon a shelf 13 immediately below-the burners 14 which are thereby positioned intermediate the broiling pan and the griddle plate.
The heat of the flame from the burners 14 and 15 is thus transmitted to the broiling an both directly and by reflection from the I griddle plate 16 which reflects the herat down- In so reflecting the heat downwardly the griddle'plate is maintained at a constant temperature suitable for making wheat cakes and the like. I
' A hole .22
is also provided throu h the I griddle plateat any suitable point, an com- .municatmg with the drip channel 20 so as to convey the draining or drippings from the griddle plate into the pan 21 below.
In Figures 3 and 4 we have illustrated another embodiment of our invention is ap lied I to a six burner range, in which the griddle plate 16 is raised above the top 23 of the range so as to allow for the usual ovens 24 and 25 as well as the-broiling oven 26.
In this instance, the broiling ov'en chambe 26 is raised somewhat by the upward extension of the walls 9 and .10 which 1n turn carry the recessed flanges 18 at the top for the reception of the gr ddle plate 16.
\Ve are aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms Without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof. and we therefore 'desire the present embodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, reterence being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having thus described our invention what We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A gas range having an upward extension at one end thereof and having arranged above said upward extension a laterally extended elongated opening provided with a recessed portion, a flatgriddle plate removably fitted to said recessed portion, a peripherally arranged drip channel arranged in the flat top of said griddle plate, there being an aperture through said griddle plate and in communication'ivith said channel for deflecting drip to said upward extension, a gas supply pipe at the range front, and burners connected with said supply pipe and extended laterally in spaced relation through said oven beneath said griddle plate.
2. A gas range having an upward extension at one end thereof and having arranged above said upward extension a laterally extended elongated opening provided with a recessed portion, a fiat griddle plate removably fitted to said recessed portion, a peripherally arranged drip channel arranged in the flat top of said griddle plate, there being an aperture through said griddle plate and in communication with said channel for deflecting drip to said oven, a gas supply pipe at the range front, burners connected with said supply pipe and extended laterally in spaced relation through said upward extension beneath said griddle plate. and handles arranged at each end of said griddle plate.
