This invention relates to nursing nipples. Ordinarily, in order tomount the nipple on 'a feeding bottle, it is necessary to put the fingers inside the nipple, stretch it and slip The nipple the latter with very little handling and manipulation may be readily placed in position onthe' milk bottle.

Another object of the invention is to providea nursing nipple of improved construction which is both non-collapsible and anticolic. To this end, an annular partitioning brace is provided at the junction of the bulb ous teat and the neck ofthe nipple, said brace preferably providing a surface continuous with the interior wall of the nipple, and serves to counteract a tendency of the wall of the nipple to collapse. This annular partitioning brace also restricts the lumen or passage through the nipple, dividing said lumen into two chambers, the anterior chamher which forms thebulbous' teat and the posterior chamber which includes the breast portion and neck of the nipple. a

In use, the partition brace tends to ,keep a large portion of the milk in the anterior chamber, displacing the air into the posterior chamber and the bottle, thus preventing the baby from swallowing any excess or unnecessary air. Since swallowing air is the cause of much colic in infancy, the improved con struction of the nipple makes it practically anti-colic in use.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a .nursing nipple which shall be simple in construction, cheap to manufacture,

and practical and eflicient to a high degree.

Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction herelnafter described, and of which the scope o'f application will be indicated in the following claims.

Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 de-' notes a nursing nipple embodying the invention which ma be made of rubber or the like material and 1s seen to comprise a breast portlon 11 from which extends the neck12, and a bulbous teat 13 terminating said neck. The head of the teat may be provided with oneor more outwardly extending openings 14 disposed in the well understood manner.

Preferably formed integral with the interior wall of the nipple at the junction of the teat with the neck, an annular partition brace 15 is provided which reinforces the nipple against collapsing strains. The breast portion is shaped to receive the neck 16 .of-a feeding bottle-16 through the nip le dpenin 10 and a suitable reinforcing band 17 is pre l erably provided 'to extend about the rim portion of said openin 10. The band 17 may be molded to be in olded as shown in Fig. 1 .and said band is preferably provided with an integral peaklike outwardly extending handle 18. With the aid of the latter, the nipple 10 may be easily andquickly mounted and removed from the neck of the bottle.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in] which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.- r

As various possible embodimentsmight be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matterherein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing'is to beinterpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentz+ i l. A nipple construction of the character m described comprising a neck portion having a passage extending therethrough and comprising a wall of substantially uniform crosssection and an enlarged bulbous teat extending from said neck portion, an annular en; largement projectin inwardly from .said wall at the junction said teat with said neck portion to restrict said passage;

A nursing nipple having an opening adapted to receive the neck of a bottle, a rim portion around said opening, and a handle 1 extending outwardly from said rim portion and integral therewith, the bottom surface of said handle being substantially in the same plane with the plane of the bottom of said rim whereby said handle serves to aid in sup- }porting said nipple in upright position on a ase.

A nursing nipple comprising a neck portion provided with a rim portion at one end thereof and a bulbous teat extending from the opposite end of said neck portion, said neck portion having a passage extending therethrough and comprising a wall of substantially uniform cross-section, an annular enlargement projecting inwardly from said wall at the junction of said teat with said neck portion to restrict said passage, and a handle extending outwardly from said rim portion and integrally formed therewith, the bottom of said handle being in substantially the same plane with the bottom of said rim whereby said handle serves to aid in supporting said nipple in upright position on a base. 4. A nursing nipplecomprising a neck por- ,tion, a breast portion adapted to receive the neck of a bottle extending at one end of said ,neck portion and a bulbous teat portion hav- -ing a small outwardly disposed opening extending from the opposite end of said neck portion, said breast portion being formed with a rim, and a handle extending outwardly from said rim andintegrally therewith, the bottom surface of said handle being substantially in the same plane with the plane of the bottom of said rim whereby said handle serves to aid in supporting said nipple in upright position on a base.
