IMPROVEMENT lN WEATHERNANE ATTACHMENTS FOR LIGHTNING-RODS.
S peciication forming part of Letters PatentNo. 174,866, dated March 14, 1876 application filed December 8, 1875.
- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. SM1TE,of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented anew and valuable Improvement in Weather-Vane Attachments to Lightning-Rods; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact y description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speci tic-ation, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawings is a representa tion of a vertical section of my weather-vane holder.
My invention relates to that class of devices which are designed to utilize the top of light.
nin grods on buildings for sustaining weathervanes; and it consists in the construction of' interior annular projection, marked fon the drawings, which is intended to serve as a support for the end of the rod in case it be a tubular one.
The tubular lightning-rod is passed up over the projection f, but a solid one is screwed into the threads c, inside the projection f.
The letter y represents a thumb-screw that passes through the tubular cap to aid in holding the lrod securely.
The vane rests upon the top of pin B, as represented.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The cap A, provided with the interior screw-thread c and pivot-pin B, substantially as described.
2. The cap A, provided with pivot-pin B, projection f, and thumb-screw y, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
