IMPROVEMENT IN POCKET TOOTH-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No 174,832, dated March 14, 1876; application filed November 21, 1874 .Toall whom it may concern Be it known that I, P. 0. MCUHESNEY, of Millbnrn, Essex county, New Jersey, have inxented an Improved Pocket Tooth-Brush, of which the following is a specification:
- My invention relates to that class of portable tooth-brushes in'which the stem carrying the brush may be detached from and placed in a hollow handle; and my invention consists in constructing thebrush as fully described hereafter, to insure greaterstrength and facilitate the adjustment of the parts.
ln the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a longitudinal view, partly in section, showing the brush ready for use; and Fig.2, a longitudinal View, partly in section, showing the brush arranged for transportation.
The case B, which constitutes the handle, is hollow and open at one end, in which isa slot, 0, and in the closed end is a threaded opening or socket, s, for the reception of a threaded metal pin, I, projecting from a block, G, upon the end of the stem A. The stem carries the usual brush, and, with the latter,
' is of such a size as to bereadily contained within the hollow handle B, and when inserted, as shown in Fig. 2, a shoulder, :10, on a the block G, bearing against the side of the ease, prevents the stem-from falling, pressing the brush against the case and bending the bristles. Alug, J, on the block G, projecting through the slot e, not only prevents the stem from turning, but also afi'ords a means of readily withdrawing the stem by pressing opening 8, and slot 6, in combination with the brush-stem A, screw I, and projection J, all constructed and arranged substantially as set forth.
