RICHARD S. IMELLI, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROCKING-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,679, dated March 14, 1876; application filed February To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD STEPHAN I ELLI, of Chicago, in the county of Q00]: and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stand Rocking-Chairs,- of which the following is a specification The present invention relates to an improvement in chairs whose rockers sit on a stand instead of the floor; and its nature consists in the combination of liat'springs fastened to the bar, connecting the stand, with oscillating rods put through the springs and pivoted to auxiliary supports fastened to the rockers, as the whole is to he hereinafter fully described and shown.
In the drawings, Figure l is an elevation of one side of the stand and rocker, and a view of my improved attachments in position for use. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation on line as, Fig. 1.
A represents the stand, and B the rocker, and B is the auxiliary strip fastened to the rocker in the stand A in the usual manner. C represents a cross-bar, which connects the two legs of the stand, and which supports two springs, D, one for each rocker. The lower ends of these springs incline downward, and their upper ends E extend onto the edges of the bar 0, and are turned fiat on the top thereof, and fastened by bolts or screws. The rods F, one for each rocker, are pivoted to the auxiliary parts B, and pass through the spring D, and are fastened by nuts and screwthreads I. This arrangement is such that the rockers B are held down to the stand, and are permitted to have an oscillating or rocking movement, the springs yielding for that purpose.
I am aware that stand rocking-chairs are in common use with springs to permit a rocking movement. I therefore confine myself to the following specific claim.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The springs D E, constructed as set forth,
in combination with the cross-bar O, rods F, auxiliary pieces B, and stand A, as set forth.
RICHARD STEPHAN IMELLI. Witnesses:
