IMPROVEMENT IN PlCTURE-CO RDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,647, dated March 14, 1876; application filed December 1, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERASTUS H. TYLER, of Medway, in the county of Norfolk, State v of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Picture-(lords, of
which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which my invention appertains to make and use the same,
reference being had to the accompanyingdrawing, forming a party of this specification, in which- Figures 1, 2, and 3 are sectional isometrical perspective views, showing difl'erent varieties of the cord.
My invention relates to means for strengthening,protecting, and beautifying the cord; and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed, by which a more braiding-machine, the wires G running in a direction opposite that of the wires D, both being intertwined, as shown.
The wires, by beingbraided on, instead of wound, bind each other when a strain is exerted on the cord, and thus greatly increase its strength; they also improve its appearance, and prevent it from being eaten by moths.
In Fig. 1 the outer covering is composed entirely of wires; but these may be alternated with thread or yarn, as seen at G H in Fig. 2, if desired, and which I deem preferable, as the threads serve to keep the wires in proper position on the wrapping B; or several wires may be employed, alternated with several threads, as seen in Fig. 3, with the same gen eral results. A single strand may also be used for the body of the cord, if preferred, without departing from the spirit of my'invention; whch having thus explained,
What I claim is- As a new article of manufacture, a picturecord consisting of the body A, provided with the fibrous inner wrapping B, and having an outer wrapping or covering, consisting of the wires 0 D, braided on, substantially as and for the purpose set forth and specified.
