SPINNING RING TRAVELER Filed Oct. 20, 1927 I N VEN TOR.
ATTORNEY.
Figure 1 is a sectional the ring, the wire t forming a second loop 15 and then arches un Patented Feb. 4, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT oF FicE CHINE WORKS, OF WHITINSVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION GHUSETTS OF MASSA- SPINNING-RING TRAVELER Application filed October 20, 1927. Serial No. 227,475.
This invention has particular'reference to an improvement in travelers used on spinning rings of the type shown in a United States patent granted to me August 16, 1927, No. 1,639,406, wherein the ring is adjustably mounted on a spindle cap and coacts therewith to effect the requisite tension on the yarn as it is being wound on the bobbin.
The features wherein my invention resides will be more fully hereinafter described and then pointed out in the appendedclaims.
Referring now to the drawings wherein I have shown an embodiment of my invention, elevation of a portion of a cap spinning frame sufficient to illustrate the application of my improved traveler. Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sec= tional side elevation of the spinning ring with my traveler thereon and'Figure 3 is an end elevation of the traveler.
In the drawings 10 represents the spinning ring having a vertical traveler race 11 whereon my improved traveler 12 is rotatable. The traveler is preferably made of round wire and comprises upper and lower feet embracing respectively the upper and lower race flanges of the ring. The wire forming the upper foot 13 of the traveler arches over the upper flange of the ring and bends downwardly and then upwardly formin a hooked shapedloop 14, the face of which eing substantially at right an les to the radial line of lien bends downwardly der the bottom flange of the ring forming the lower foot 16, t e plane of the face of this loop being parallel to said radialline or in other words the faces ofthe two loops are substantially at'right angles with each other.- The upper part of the second loop located substantially in the center of the traveler his fingers as is required with old style travelers.
I claim:
1. The combination with a rotatable bobbin and'a ring surrounding the same having a vertical external traveler race with upper and lower flanges, of a traveler having arc ed feet loosely embracing said upper and lower flanges of said traveler race, said traveler extending radially outward from said ring and havlng a looped portion intermediate said arch-ed feet and entirely open downwardly to form a self-threadin guide for the yarn bein wound on the bob in.
2. The com ination with a rotatable bobbin and a ring surrounding the same having a vertical external traveler race with upper and lower flanges, of a traveler formed from a single piece of wire and comprising upper and lower arched feet, respectivel loosely embracing said upper and lower anges of said traveler race, said traveler projecting radially outwardly from said race and having a downturned loop and an upturned loop formed in the trave or intermediate of its arched feet, the faces of said loops bein substantially perpendicular to each other an said latter loop forming a downwardly open self-threading guide for the yarn being wound on the bobbin.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
ELLIS HARTLEY.
serves as a guide 17 for the yarn 18 in its assage from the delivery rolls 19 to the bobin 20.
By this construction in piecing up a broken end, the yarn as it winds on the bobbin automatically threads itself into the tra y eler by catching in the guide loop, thus eliminating the necessity of the operative threading the yarn into the traveler with loo
