Description

U rrE STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
JUD D COBB, OF BELOIT, WISCONSIN.
lMPR'OVEME NT IN MOTH-PROOF PAPER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,484, dated Marchf7, 1876; application filed January 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, JUDD M. COBB, of Beloit, in the county of -Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Moth-Proof Paper, Paper- Board, Felt, 850., which is fully described in the following specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a paper-board for use as a carpet-lining, and in the manufacture of paper boxes, or a thin paper for use as a lining for boxes, which is moth-proof.
The invention consists in making the board or paper either wholly or in part, from stock obtained by reducingcedar-wood to the condition of pulp by any suitable process.
chemicals, and the paper or board. is made en-' tirely from stock of this kind; or it may be mixed with ordinary paper-stock or feltingstock, in such proportions as may be desired.
If it is desired to make the material strongly aromatic, nothing but cedar stock should be used but for some purposes a slight odor of cedar will be sufficient, and then the cedar stock may be mixed with any other, a suflicient quantity always being used to make the cedar odor recognizable.
A paper-board made in continuous lengths from this materialwill be useful for carpetlinings, as the odor of cedar retained by the board on account of the material from which it is manufactured will act as an etficient'preventive to the ravages of the moth. 'It may also be used for the manufacture of box-board for use in making. boxes to contain furs, woolen articles of clothing,'or anything which it isdesired to protect from moths.
A thin paper may also be manufactured from cedar pulp which may be used to line boxes which have been made from ordinary box-board. It may also be used for lining chests, trunks, and other like articles.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture,a mothproof paper or paper-board, made wholly or in part from cedar-wood pulp, for the purposes set forth. V
