This invention relates to certain improvements in detachable plates for concealed manifolds of gas ranges as will be shown and described hereinafter.
The present improvement is on the detach- 4 able plate for concealed manifolds shown in vertical slots and it is the primary object of the present invention to make a plate for concealing the manifold valves and valve housing without these vertical slots. Itha's been found ditiicultto provide a plate of the character herein described without these vertical slots and at the same time provide some means to connect the handles with the valves located in the said range housing.
Afterconsiderable experimenting I have finally been able to produce a plate for concealing the manifold without any vertical slots and to so construct the handle that it can be operated from outside of the range structure.

Referring now particularly to the exact construction here shown for putting'into effect the present improvement, 1 indicates the housing of the top burner portion of a gas range and 2 shows only a part of the lower portion of the oven.
In the construction here shown the top burner portion 3 comprises so far as the pres ent improvement is concerneda plate 4 which is angular in cross section, the front edge 5 of this plate extends downward. One or more brackets 6 are connected to the inner'sideof the downwardly extending leg or portion 5 by means of a suitable screw 7. This bracket has its lower edge 8 extendinginward substantially as shown.
A substantially vertically arranged plate has its upper edge 9 extending outward and abutting against the under side of the arm 8 the plate being connected with the bracket by a suitable screw 10. This plate in the special construction hereshown has a downwardly extending portion 11 and from the lower edge of the portion 11 a plate then is curved inward as shown at 12, the lower edge 13 of the plate stopping slightly above a suitable removable tray 14 located under the top burner portion 3. It will be observed from 16 has its lower end 17 attached to the outer end of the valve 16 by means of a suitable screw 18.- This lever has its attached end extending inward at right angles to the valve, is then bent outwardly as at 19 and then is curved around the lower edge 13 of the plate 11 to theouter side of the plate as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 5 at 20. The outer extremity of this lever has attached to it a handle 21 by which the lever is moved up and down and consequently the valve is correspondingly moved for cutting off and turning on the gas to'a suitable nipple 22 that feeds the gas to a burner not shown.
1 As here shown the laterally turned portion a top burner portion having the. manifold 19 of the lever is attached to the curved portion 20 by having the abutting portions spot welded as shown at 23, which is found to be. thepreferable way. However it will be understood that the lever could be made so that the parts 17 and 19 would be integral with the part 20 without varying from the construction here described. The housing 24 for the valve 16 has extending from its upper side a suitable nipple 25 that enters the manifold 26 extending inside of the housing of the top burner portion.
From the foregoing description the operation of this improvement will be understood it being only necessary to state that-this improved construction provides a range with concealing plate 11 and'a special construction of the handle to pass around the said plate and thus avoid the necessity of having vertical openings therein for the passage of the operating handle.
In the construction here shown it will also be understood that by removing the screws 10 that hold the plate to its bracket 6 enables the plate to be removed from the front side of-the burner top 3 thus exposing the valve, valve housing and other parts for repair or substitution or other purpose.
Having thus described myinvention whatdesire to secure by -Letters Pat- I claim and tent is:
1. A burner top for gas ranges having a concealing manifold comprising a depending plate attached with the said top leaving a space at its lower edge, a valve located behind said plate and a lever having its inner end curved around the said plate and passing through the said space and attached to the end of the valve leaving an exposed outer portion, whereby it can be opened and closed.
2. A concealed manifold for top burner portions of gas ranges comprising a top portion, a plate connected with the top portion and extending downward to leave an opening at its lower portion, a valve housing and a valve located behind the, said plate and a substantially l J-shaped lever having its inner end connected with the said valve and its outer end extending around the said plate and carrying the handle whereby the valve can be moved to open and shut positions by raising and lowering the said handle.
3. A concealed manifold for top burner portions of gas ranges, the top portion enclosing a manifold, a downwardly extending plate having its lower edge stopping to form'a horizontal slot, a valve housing in communication with the manifold having also a gas passageway for supplying a burner,
of a lever substantially U-shaped and passing through the said slot around the said plate, the inner end of the lever extending laterally and connected with one end oft-he valve, the outer end of the U-shaped lever carrying an outwardly projecting handle for operating the movable parts.
4. A concealed manifold structure for gas ranges comprising a top burner portion having its top'with a downwardly extending flange, a plate detachably connected with said flange and extending downward leaving a horizontal slot at its lower end, a manifold valve housing and valve located beyond the said plate in the said top burner portion and an operating lever having its lower portion substantially U-shaped and connected at its inner end to said valve and its outer end carrying an outwardly projecting handle whereby the said valve is operated by the up and down motion of the handle.
5. A concealed manifold for top burner portions of gas ranges in which the top burner portion has extending downwardly therefrom and detachably connected thereto aplate having its lowerportion extendin inwardly and forming a slot at its lower en -a valve and valve housing within the top burner portion and a substantially U-shaped lever having its inner end connected with said valve and having an outwardly extendmemo? laterally and then inwardly towards the center of the U-shaped portion the inwardly concealing manifold comprising a horizontally elongated plate located below the said top and supported to leave space at one edge thereof, valve located behind said plate, and a lever extending from outside the plate having its inner end curved around the stud plate and passing through the said space and attached to the end of the valve,
whereby the valve can he opened and closed by moving the outer end of saidlever.
