TOILET ACCES SORY Filed Sept. 28; 1927 Patented Jan. 14,- 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT o Frcn WILLIAM FRIEDMAN, on NEW YORK, 1v. Y., Assreuoa'ro, LUPE, mo on NEW YORKL 1v. Y., A CORPORATIQISY OFQNEW. YORK.
TOILET ACCESSORY Application filed September 2 8, 1927. Serial Not 222,471.
This invention relates to toilet accessories, and more particularly to such accessories pertaining to make-up devices as generally employed by women and carried by them in their hand bags.
The objects of the invention are to provide a unitary article of improved construction providing the necessary make-up facilities; to enable any or all of those facilities to be em- 10 ployed simultaneously; to prevent the mirror from becoming fogged by powder, rouge, etc.; to enable the mirror to be used without exposing the other make-up articles; to avoid bulkiness; to provide means for conveniently holding a rouge and powder container; to provide a construction having minimum number of parts; to secure simplicity of construction and operation, with ease and desirability of use; and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out in the following description.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a plan or face view of the toilet accessory embodying my invention, the container being shown open;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal edge view of the toilet accessory as shown in Fig. 1;
Figure 3 is a similar edge view but showing the container closed; and t Figure 4: is a longitudinal sectional view on line H of Fig. 1.
In the specific embodiment of the invention illustrated in said drawing, the reference numeral 1 indicates the body portion in general of my improved toilet accessory. Said body portion is preferably stamped out of a single sheet of metal of suitable size and shape. As 4 shown, said body portion is an elongated piece of metal having rounded ends. One end portion 2 is flat whereas the opposite end portion is depressed or cupped providing a container 3 for make-up material, such as 4 powder or rouge. Hinged, as at 1, to this cupped end of the body portion 1, is another container 5 for another make-up article, such as powder or rouge. This container 5 is preferably arranged to also constitute a cover for container 3 of the body portion, and with .the containers 3 and 5 havetheir open sides 5 the parts are swung together one constitutes a cover forthe other, the container 5 hinged tents of said container 3 are being used. --w1ll'als0 be noted, that the containersv are so so that'the cover 5 will properly fit over. the
container 3 and so that when swung together or; faces toward each other and their bulged or cuppedibottoms projecting in oppositedi- .rections from each other. While preferably parts 3and-5 constitute containers, and when to-thebody portion may be referred to as a cover for purposes of distinguishing it from the other container 3iforming a part of the bodyportion. 155 It will be observed thatthebodyv portion 1 provides 'a flatsurface 2, and I preferably employ this flat surface to provide a reflector.
The device beingconstructed of metal, a very convenient form of reflector is to polish the -metal on one orboth surfaces and in any event at the same side as the open side of the con itainer- 3 so that use may be made of the refleeting surface at the same time as the conarranged that they both open upwardly at the same time enabling-the contents of both to be used in conjunction with the reflecting surface. I accordingly provide a structure which is very conveniently used and a construction which may be manufactured very readily and cheaply. The reflecting surface is at all times exposed, and will not become fogged by the materials in either of the containers 3 or 5, and may also be used without opening those containers when there is no desire to use the contents of the containers. Furthermore, the reflector 2 extending from the container 3 and rigid with respect thereto provides a very convenient means for bold ing said container while rubbing a pad on the contents without any likelihood of the pad rubbing on the users fingers by which the device is held and soiling them.
Suitable means may be provided for holding the cover closed down upon the body portion, and as one means for effecting this purpose, I have shown a detent 6 on the outer edge of cover 5 which will pass through an 10B opening 7 in the body portion and snap under a ledge 8 provided by the edge of said opening. The device is accordingly very readily opened by pressing open this detent 6, and is as easily closed by merely closing the cover down and forcing the detent past the ledge.
The body portion and the containers may be of any shape desired, and may be decorated or left plain in accordance with the desires or taste of the manufacturer. Furthermore, other detail changes and modifications may be made in the construction and use of my improved toilet accessory, so that I do not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact construction shown or described, except as set forth in the following claims when construed in the light of the prior art.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A toilet accessory comprising a container for make-up material, a cover also comprising a container and hinged to the first said container so that one container will close the other and when opened both containers will open in the same direction, and a reflecting surface extending from and rigid I with respect to one of said containers and facing in the same direction as the containers when open thereby enabling the reflecting surface and the contents of said containers to be used simultaneously.
2. A toilet accessory comprising a container for make-up material, a cover member for said container hinged thereto, and a reflecting surface extending from and rigid with respect to said container and facing in the same direction as the container when open thereby enabling the reflecting surface and the contents of said container to be used simultaneously and enabling the reflecting surface to be used as a mirror Without opening said container.
