Description

Jan. 14, 1930,
O. BURNS HOLDER FOR PRICE TAGS Filed 'Maron 13, 1928 B Y I INVENTOR 0 ,WTORNEY Patented Jan. 14, 1930 UNITED STATES OSCAR BURNS, OF CORSICANA, TEXAS HOLDER FOR PRICEv TAGS Application led March 13, 1928. Serial No. 261,244.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in price-marking devices and pertains more particularly to a new and improved form of pricewtag holder for use both .5 on goods and on shelves containing goods.
It is the object of this invention to provide a tag holder whereby a price for commodities of various kinds sold by stores may be suitably indicated, particularly in stores selling lo groceries. An object of the invention is also to provide a device of flexible material for permitting the insertion and removal of the price indicator without bending the same as is necessary in the conventional price-inclicator holder, and it is a further object of my invention to provide a price-tag holder for the insertion and removal of the price-tag without disturbing the goods on the shelf and so arranged as to present a neat and attractive appearance.
Broadly, this invention comprises a member consistingof a continuous strip of metal, as shown in *igure 1, which is formed with its upper and lower edges bent over at suitable spaced intervals to provide channel ways for holding the price tags, and having a small protuberance between each series of price-tag holders to facilitate the insertion and removal of said tag.
The novelty of my invention will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the holder showing a portion of the shelf with price-tag holder attached thereto and carrying price-tags representing different amounts;
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on line 3 3 of Fig. l; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing the price tag partially removed from the holder.
Referring to the drawings, and more particularly to Fig. 1, 10 indicates a strip of metal having similar upper and lower portions 11, formed by being bent over at suitable spaced intervals to form similar upper and lower channel ways 12. Formed integral with the strip of metal 10 is a lug or circular protuberance 13, said protuberance being situated between the edges of the series of members 11 and in each of the spaced openings lt of the strip of metal 10, between adjacent ends of pairs of upper and lower portions 11, which adjacent ends are slightly rounded as shown in the drawing, thus greatly facilitating the insertion or removal of the price tag. The strip of metal 10 is secured to the front edges of the shelf by fastening means, as indicated at 15 in Fig..2. By forming the price tag holder with the channels 11 not continuous the entire length of the strip 10, produces a series of openings whereby the tag may be inserted or withdrawn wit-hout bending.
Figure 4 shows a price-tag 16 being inserted in the channel ways 12, the function of the protuberance 13 facilitating the insertion or removal ofv the tag without bending; and from the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a new and novel form of ticket holder which renders tags capable of indefinite use.
What I claim is:
In a device of the class described, the combination with a relatively long shelf for eX- posing consecutively therealong a plurality of variouspriced goods, of a holder for a plurality of tags arranged along the edge of said shelf, said holder comprising a relatively flat and elongated body made of a single piece of material, the edges of said holder being formed with a series of spaced pairs of bent over portions extending partly over the normally exposed face of said body, each of said spaced pairs comprising a portion extending from the top edge of said body and a corresponding portion extending from the bottoni edge of said body opposite the corresponding upper portion, each of said upper and lower portions having its ends rounded, a series of lugs punched from said body,said lugs being of domelike shape and positioned centrally between adjacent ends of pairs of said upper and lower portions, said adjacent pairs of bent over portions being spaced apart a substantial distance sufcient to permit ready insertion therein and removal therefrom of said tags in either direction and between any pair of bent over portions, said rounded edges loo of said bent over portions cooperating With said domeshaped lugs centrally positioned in said relatively Wide spaces between said bent over portions to Vfacilitate the vWithdrawal of said tags from said holder When desired.
In testimony whereof I aix in v signature.
