Description

Jan; 7, 1930. J. w. ANDERSON 1,742,933
CRATE Filed July 21, 1928 INVENTQR BY W ATTOR N EY Patented Jan. 7, 1930 UNITED STATES JOHN W. ANDERSON, OF BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA CRATE Application filed July 21,
for this purpose that comprises a frame hav ing its opposite sides open except at the bottom thereof, a band which is pivotally secured in the top of the frame, and through which band the liquid container is passed,
the said band having depending spring arms formed with hooked ends which frictionally contact with the sides of the container when the latter is lowered into the frame and which will engage with the beaded bottom of the container when the same is partly raised through the frame, so that said container may be swung with the band at desired angles through the open sides of the frame to permit of determined quantities of liquid being poured from the container.
To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a side elevation of the improvement, the container being elevated and the dotted lines illustrating the manner in which the container is swung angularly on the frame.
5 Figure 2 is a sectional view approximately on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan View of the improvement.
The improvement comprises a wooden frame 1, which in the showing of the drawings is of a substantially rectangular formation. Two of the opposite sides of the frame have their corner members connected by boards 2, so that these sides of the frame, above the boards are open.
The opposite sides of the frame have their corner members connected by upper and lower transverse cleats 3 and 4, respectively. Arranged in the top of the frame and pivoted as at 5, to the upper cleats 3 there is a 1928. Serial No. 294,475.
continuous metal member in the nature of a band 6. The band, in a line with the pivots thereof, is provided with depending spring arms 7 which normally exert a tension toward each other. The lower ends of these arms are hooked, as at 8.
Designed to be passed through the band and to be received in the frame there is a liquid container 9. The lower edge of this container is headed, as at 10, and the top of the container is provided with a handle 11 and with a combined filler and outlet spout 12. The spout is, of course, normally closed.
The spring arms 7 may have their hooked ends readily brought out of engagement with the bottom of the container when the container is to be lowered into the frame and when the said container is raised through the frame the spring arms will automatically bring their hooked ends 8 into engagement with the beaded bottom edge 10 of the container which permits of the container being swung with the arms and with the band on the pivots 5 to allow desired quantities of the liquid therein being delivered through the spout 12.
The simplicity and advantages of my improv'ement will, it is thought, be fully understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art'but obviously I do not wish. to be restricted to the precise details herein set forth and, therefore hold myself entitled to make such changes therefrom as fairly fall within the scope of what I claim.
Having described the invention, I claim:
A crate for the purpose set forth, comprising a frame having its opposite sides open except at the bottom thereof, a band having its sides pivoted in the top of the frame, said band having spring arms depending therefrom whose lower ends are hooked and said band designed to receive therethrough a liquid dispensing container whose bottom is adapted to be engaged by the hooks of the arms when the container is elevated through the band and frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
' JOHN W. ANDERSON.
