This invention relates to an improved procluct of manufacture in the form of an attachment, for a conventional wash board, the attachment being constructed to prevent water from splashing onto the clothes of the user, thereby permitting it to be properly entitled a splash shield.

Briefly, the invention of the attachment comprises a substantially semi-ovate sheet of rubber provided with a reinforcing wire about its marginal edge, ith the ends of the wire bent to provide attaching prongs.

Referring now to the drawings by numerals, it will be observed that the reference character 4 designates generally the wash board, which embodies the customary legs 5, corrugated rubbing plate 6, and head or top rail 7 and the brand board 19. The attachment is generally designated by the reference character 8, and as before indicated, it com prises a flat sheet of rubber 9 of appropriate texture, the same being substantially semiovate in configuration.

It will be noticed that a portion of the rounded edge is turned over as at 10, and fast ened down as at 11 to form a bead. This constitues a binder and contains a correspondingly shaped reinforcing wire rod 12. The opposite ends of the wire are directed outwardly as at 13, bent at right angles as at 14, bent down at right angles, as at 15, and

again bent to provide pointed anchoring prongs 16, these being driven by a hammer or the like into the legs 5, just beneath the head rail 7.

It will be noted however, that the straight edge portion 17 of the sheet, forms what may be designated an apron, this underlying the head rail, being tacked or otherwise fastened thereto as at 18. This prevents the water from getting in between the rubber sheet and SHIELD 1928. Serial No. 258,412.

The invention is characterized by simplicity, inexpensiveness of manufacture, ease of attachment, and efficiency in operation. These being apparent, a more lengthy description is regarded unnecessary.

Minor changes in material, shape, and size of parts, may be resorted to within the field of invention claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A splash shield for a wash board wherein the wash board embodies a rubbing plate, a brand board, legs supporting the rubbing plate and a head rail connecting the legs at one end, comprising a semi-ovate sheet of rubber having a portion of the marginal edge turned over and fastened to provide a bead, a substantially semi-circular reinforcing wire located in said bead, the opposite ends of said wire being bent outwardly and downwardly and terminating in pointed extremities for piercing the respective legs of the wash board, the straight edge portion of the sheet adapted to rest upon the brand board between the legs, and that portion of the sheet adjacent its straight edge adapted to be fixed in juxtaposition and in underlying relation to the head rail of theboard.
